The stock tires are softer to begin with, so an E-rated (10-ply) tire is going to feel stiffer than the stock tires with the same PSI. Also because they are stiffer, you will need less air to allow for the best contact patch of the tread. In other words, if the PSI is the same in both tires, the stock tire would sit flatter than the E-rated tire. The E-rated tire would be sitting more on the center of the tire wearing that out first.

I love the look and very good on road performance and I've had a few people stop me in parking lots and ask a few question about them,that's never happened with any other tire I've owned.
Even at a distance the sidewalls really stand out.......... especially when you want to make that 4th gen look like a glorified station wagon. :hiding:

So far wear is pretty much non existent but it's only been 4 months/3500 miles and I had them off road twice last September and they performed as expected and can't wait til the snow melts a little more and hit the trails. I have the load range C so they will be tested this spring but on the road there's very little if any more sidewall flex then my D load rated Nittos and on the hwy they still are quite stable but also remember my 3rd gen weighs 600-800lbs less so E might be a better choice on the heavier 5th gens.
......my center caps are just off till we get a little warmer temps to finish re-painting them but yes,they don't look awful without them.

I got mine at Sears Autocenter. They matched the TireRack.com price of $209.00 a piece... plus mounting/balancing. All in all it was like $950.00. Could have done a lot worse.

same here.... what are you leaning toward?
List is probably too long, but did a TR comparison the other day with the BFG A/T's, Revo2's, Destination A/T's, Scorpions, and Geolanders. Had the Revo1's on my T4R 3rd gen and liked them a lot for dry road, snow and beach sand. Had BFG's on my CJ's back in the day, but they are noisy. Any one of these is probably not a bad choice at the end of the day.

A lot of guys seem to think highly of the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I've never personally driven on them, but I figured I'd add it to the list of possible A/T tires for the 4Runner.

So far so good. They ride smooth and handle like the stockers. They have a noticable hum... but no louder than any other A/T tire I've driven... well, except the Revos... those were silent.
I don't even have 100 miles on them yet, so I'll keep you posted as time rolls on.

I drove on a set of Nitto TGs for almost 5 years and 45k miles and I really liked them and their behavior on-road was very good for an A/T tire and were solid off road and never had a problem with them and almost bought another set but the Duratracs really looked good and I wanted a little more rugged sidewall and they definetly have that.
In the snow they have better turn-in bite than the Nittos which says a lot because the TGs were very well behaved in the snow also.
I can't wait til spring when the trails become a bit more passeable and see how they do on various terrains and I'll definelty will have pics.
Here's a few pics in the same spot in Red Rocks park but several years apart.
Still pretty new 3 years ago.
