seems like everyone whose upgrading (stock size, better tire) is moving up to E load range but Toyota master mechanics recommend C load range. ?
wondering what the "real" deal is.
We are talking about 17 inch
offroad tires ,right?
Does he recommend load range C for offroading?
Load range E tires are a much tougher as they have 4 more plies.C's have 6 ply,D's 8 ply and E's have 10 ply sidewalls, thus the added weight and stiffness of a E.The trade off is a stiffer, truck like ride.Be warned,E's are much stiffer!I personally like my truck to feel like a truck.
To me,and this is my opinion, the 17 inch C's that came on the 4Runners were too soft and bouncy.I rode on them for a week.Whenever you go over small dips or bridges I would get a bouncy feeling. IMO ,they needed at least a D rated tire in the 17's with a truck that's over 5000 lbs. with you in it.
Let's be honest, they put the factory tires they have on them for one reason, and one reason only. They were cheap tires, especially the Dunlaps!!When you people that have them upgrade to better tires, you will be amazed!
If I'm out offroad someplace 10 miles out ,I would much rather have a D or E rated tougher sidewall for insurance against sidewall cuts, not to mention if airing down the rocks.
That's why all these tire manufactures are making so many
offroad tires in E, not because people are going to tow heavy loads with them or they have extra plies lying around. Some people don't plan on going offroad and want a softer ride and that's why everyone has to reasearch and make their own decision on tires.
Just my 2 cents
