Ground Clearance?

The Trail (and Pro I would assume) is listed at 9.6" of clearance. The SR5 and Limited shows 9.0" of clearance. I think the front end is lower on the SR5 and Limited. That would explain the approach angle differences too. I am guessing the 9.6" of clearance is measured at the lowest part of the rear axle. Here is the link:

You're comparing the Trail 4X4 with the SR5 and LE 4X2's. All the 4X4's are listed at 9.6":

However, this is another set of specs from the product information sheet that you just can't trust. The best strategy, if you are concerned, is to give your tape measure some quality time with the actual vehicle.

Here is a post I started a while back about ground clearance. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/179419-false-advertising-ground-clearance.html My 14 Limited has the least ground clearance right under the front skid plate. At least the rear differential clearance stays the same, the front changes based on amount of passengers, gear, gas level and amount of bumps hit on the road or trail. I looked at a row of 4runners at my local dealer with a SR5, Trail and Limited side by side and eyeballing the clearance under the front skid plate and they all looked the same to me.

Might not help, but if shorter or less agile people sit in the front it's much easier to climb into than the back. The seat bench appears to be much higher in the rear compared to the front seats.

I believe the Trail has a smaller rear differential because of the e-locker. This is probably what accounts for the .6" difference. I imagine the front heights are the same between the 4wd models. The Limited probably just appears to sit lower because of the additional running boards.

Nope, same size carrier. 2010+ elockers are not the same as the old, failure prone, 8" elockers from previous years.

In 2010 I went looking for a 4Runner. I saw a silver Trail in Orland Park, IL, drooled but didn't pull the trigger, then later went to the local Toyota with my son born in 2002, so about 8 years old. He couldn't get into the vehicle. I made the decision right then and there, I'm not getting a 4Runner this year.

Finally bought a silver TE 2013 in 2012, all three kids and wife can get in.

Maybe you should just find another vehicle, especially if its for the missus and she will never take it off road. Highlander is awful nice and comes with AWD. RAV4 nice too, so was CR-V, Acura MDX, Subaru Outback is longer than a 4Runner. In 2012 the Highlanders had this stupid center seat in the second row that royally sucked, supposedly they got rid of it, I don't know, haven't seen one in person.

I don't even bother explaining the 4WD to my wife, she will forget it. She can't even remember that there is a release on the garage door to open it if the power goes out, how can I expect her to remember how to use the 4WD.

Sometimes you just get tunnel vision and you can't see the whole picture.

Totally forgot they even made 4Runners in 2wd! Lol, You don't see them around here in Colorado. At least not very much!

i took a tape measurer last night at 3am to take some measurements. I measured the trail the pro and a limited from the bottom of the door to the ground. the pro was about a half inch taller then both. So not much of a difference
