Had my headlights replaced today.

I know I saw that some of you had noticed the foggy look on top of your headlights, and I wasn't sure if anyone tried having them replaced or not. I just wanted to let everyone know that they do, do it under warranty I had them done today also, I found out that the smoked headlights they use on the Trail Edition run $240 a piece. Thank god for still being under warranty.

Can you explain the reason that the dealer replaced them? I have the same problem on my TE but haven't approached it at the dealer yet.

Yes, please do tell us how they justified it so the rest of us have an idea as to what's an "acceptable reason" by their standards~ to help our service-writers write everything up correctly.

Thanks!

When I first got the vehicle, I started to notice the cloudy headlights after a month or so. I just let it go, but recently noticed that it has fogged up quite a bit on the upper portion. I even tried to clean it/wipe it off, but it comes back after the water evaporates.

Would like new trail lights so I don't have to paint the originals. *Wishful thinking*

UV breakdown or something else?

For now I'm using some 303 Aerospace Protectant on the lenses. Time will tell if it helps or if the same problems come up.

I just walked in told them about it, said I had talked to another service rep a couple months ago about it which I did ( I was going to wait closer till my warranty was up but they were bugging me) and he looked at me funny but when I told him it was a 2011 he immediately walked out to see them. I told him you can wipe them off but it comes right back he said alright ordered them and that was it. They can't really argue anything I have seen vehicles way older that looked better. OH! I also mentioned to him that a lot of the people on here had the same issue, that there was an entire thread devoted to it.

Thats what I would say but I would also classify it as manufactures defect, no 2010 or like mine 2011 should be doing that.

I have a 2011 Limited since January and I'm having the same issues. Is there a TSB that we can use as a reference?

My dealership wouldn't do anything, acted like it was normal and said I needed to wax them often. I was pissed, but didn't feel like arguing...unfortunately I didn't buy my trail from the local dealer, only because they couldn't get one in this area.....I have bought two tacomas and a 4runner from them! I have just turned a year on my 4runner, I assume the warrenty is for one year?

Three year or 36,000 miles bumper to bumper.

My wifes 2011 did the same thing. Took it in for the 10,000 service and told them about it. They just polished them. Looks as good as new now, but I will be watching them closely.

Honestly, I am disappointed with Toyota service in general. I go to supposedly the best Toyota dealer in the Denver metro area. Called them because the chrome trim on the driver's door handle simply disappeared. I was told that it might not be covered under warranty, because I can't prove that it was stolen... seriously?

After it goes off warranty, I'm hoping that my Lexus dealer will service it. At Lexus, they just do it - no questions for warranty work.

I have 2010 and have the same fogging issue - and my 4Runner spends about 80% of its life in a garage. It never sits out during the day... so I'd doubt I'd get far w/ my dealership.

Thanks for posting though, good to know there is hope.

Glad to see that there's a post about this. I thought it was only my headlights. Can you keep us updated on the new lights? I'm interested to see if they're going to cloud up as well. There really should be a TSB -- maybe there will be if enough of us complain. It looks to me like a manufacturing defect on the inside of the lights.

If you read this thread and haven't already called the Toyota Customer Experience Center, PLEASE CALL THEM AND COMPLAIN!!! (nicely though, since it's not the customer service agent's fault)

The phone # is 800-331-4331

I've been discussing the situation with the Service guys at my local dealer for 6 months and they've been "watching for TSBs" with no luck. So, I called Toyota ~ 2 weeks ago just before I rolled over 36k miles so that they'd have my complaint on record in their system before my standard warranty expired (did actually purchase the 100k warranty since I drive A LOT for work and new I'd hit 36k pretty quick... which I did...but I figured calling them pre-36k wouldn't hurt). Anyway, the service agent told me that Toyota Corporate had very little mention of this issue that he could find while I was on hold and that anyone that has the problem should call them to report the issue since the local dealers may or may not report the problem back to the corporate level.

Calling Toyota is the only way to provide direct feedback/complaint as well as ensure that they have record that your T4R had the issue before you hit 36k. If/when a fix is issued, they should contact you directly if you're in the system with the problem.

So, call them NOW if it's during the day, tomorrow if you're checking the forum before bed.
