Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

Just use vice grips with a rag inside the jaws. Works fine. See the 2nd pic in the second post of this thread... also posted below for illustration.

You sure about that? You might want to check your facts, sir.

I'm talking about the line connecting to the front calipers.

EDIT: At least they were for my 2000.

Fair enough, but I believe TX4Running was asking about a method to pinch closed the line(s) in the picture that I posted.

On the 3rd gen, there is a hard line off the frame, then a section of flex rubber line, then another section of hard line off the spindle to the caliper. If you pinch the section of flex rubber line it will prevent air from working it's way further up into the lines, making bleeding an easier task. I also put a vacuum cap over the line ends ASAP after removal from the caliper.

Yep. This is what i was saying. That middle rubber part i guess you can pinch off, its the same thing i do when i took my rear axle off to replace the inner axle seal.

Vacuum Caps

BFAD,
What size are the vacuum caps? Do I specify 10 mm? I've seen online for Autozone they carry packs of varying sizes. They also have individual 5/16" and 3/8". Neither of these is as big as 10 mm though. Any other stores that may carry them? I will be picking up some vice grips this morning. Thanks for all your help.

Alright, got vacuum caps and vice grips. Now I'm having a helluva time getting the 12 mm bolt broke loose that holds the ABS spindle. I've been soaking them now about 45 minutes with PB Blaster. I'm afraid I may be stripping the heads of the bolts. Any other suggestions? Or just keep soaking and trying?

I'm guessing you're talking about the 12mm bolt that holds the brake line to the spindle, right?

If so, those can be a PITA. I broke one of those bolts off in the spindle on my '97. There was no getting it out, so I just drilled it and put a new bolt all the way through with a nut on the other side. Sounds like you're taking the right steps, PB blaster, time, and wishing for good luck.

12 mm Spindle Bolt Wins This Round

I am talking about the 12 mm spindle bolt. I've given up on getting it out the conventional way. Let it soak for several hours with PB Blaster with no luck. It's rounded off now. I've drilled a hole through the bolt but can't seem to get it completely out. Just keep drilling bigger and bigger holes?

12 hours later and I've managed to remove both 12 mm spindle bolts. Lots of drilling and a few broken drill bits. This weekend's project just became next weekend's project. Please tell me the 17 mm bolts holding the calipers are much easier than the ABS spindle bolts.

how dose the tundra calipers affect braking on snow/ ice with the horrible abs systems these thing have?

Just to check, calipers from a 2006 Sequoia are the 231mm? I checked the parts numbers and they are the same, but I wanted to make sure.

Also is $50 for both calipers a good price?

Yeah, they should be. Just double check for the "13WL" stamping on the caliper once you've got them in your hands.

And if both calipers are in good working condition, $50 for both is a great price.

Nice, yeah I asked for some pictures. They should be the 13WL, but I asked for that as well. Thanks for the confirmation. I'm hoping I can pick them up so I can start gathering parts for my upgrade. I really notice the stock brakes aren't too happy with the 285's now.

That's a new one for me, bud. I've never painted a set. My assumption would be you just mask off the bleeder valve and the piston > pad mating surfaces, then go to town. I'd be interested to hear about the process others followed, too.

the pad is actually an Akebono brake pad. notice the number on the side "AK AS346 FG" which is an Akebono part number.
The size of the pad is similar to the akebono size except that their pad edges slopes (scientifically engineered chamfers) toward the backing plate, whereas the Toyota pad is cut vertically. but i still wonder why it's cheap.

Here is a picture of the style of pads I received in the kit. I returned the kit and purchased the pads and shims separately for twice the cost.

would i be able to upgrade the rotors without replacing the calipers? i have 15in stock wheels so the calipers wont clear and i dont have the money right now for new wheels and tries.

Hey guys, this is a great thread. I'm trying to find out if my wheels will accept the 213 calipers or if I'll have to go with the 199s.

They're 16" wheels. Has anybody with these wheels tried the upgrade?

Thanks,
Mike

Won't work. Unless you grind down the rim.

EDIT!!! I actually don't know. Those look deceivingly like the stock 16" 3 spokes.

Yeah, they're Enkei wheels and I haven't seen any mention of them in any of the upgrade threads that I've read.

If I go the Napa route, at worst I have to return the set of 213s for the 199s, right? Should I bother with measuring the current gap between the wheel and caliper and comparing that to the caliper measurements in this thread?

Ok so I just got some 231mm calipers and rotors off a Tundra at the local pick n pull. The rotors have a bit of surface rust, but I'm planning on getting them resurfaced. Should I replace the pads even if they have a good amount of life left in them? Anything particular I should do with the calipers? I've never dealt with brakes before so this is all foreign to me.
