Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

No issues at all in any conditions that I have noticed. The overall braking is improved and that's what I was going for. You'll read about some people that regret the TBU but overall way more people are happy with it then not.

I can second this with my own install on a 2000 SR5 5spd. My runner has only 74,000 so the original brakes were no where near worn out.
All works as it should and braking is noticeably better than before the upgrade with the 231's. All parts are playing nice with each other.
The only issue I had was one of the new braided lines would not seal correctly to the calipers. I had to way over torque it to get it to stop leaking.

TBU Completed!

So...I completed my 231 TBU today!! Major thanks to BigFish for the detailed info on this upgrade.:thumb3: After my successful install I can confirm the following. The ABS functions just as it did with the original equipment! We had some brief showers today so I was able to test drive it on semi-wet pavement. And the ABS functioned great. The 16x7 Taco TRD "snowflake" rims provide plenty of clearance for the 231 calipers! And the bed in procedure posted by ALBPM, definitely helped the braking performance. One thing I did that seemed to help the bleeding process. I connected a plastic hose to the bleeder and hooked a 30cc plastic syringe (ebay) up to the other end and used it to pull the fluid into the caliper. I had to do this a few times and disconnected the syringe each time to reload it. But once I had a nice stream of fluid coming out, I pumped the pedal and bled the brakes as you normally would, only 3-4 times and I had a nice firm pedal, with no real noticeable difference in travel or firmness from the stock equipment.-Thanks to all who played a part in this thread!

Congrats on the upgrade.

I've never heard of that line I quoted and I'm surprised. It makes complete sense and I will be using it in the future. It's basically a gravity bleed with a vacuum assist. It's rad finding new ways to do things after years. Especially, cheaper, easier, better ways.

I have these wheels (attached), 265/75/16 tires. Will this fit the larger Tundra brake pads (231 mm)?

Darn,

I seem to remember seeing somewhere that there was a write up with what wheels came with what runners. I cant seem to find it now....

Is it worth doing the 199 mm tundra swap instead of the 231 mm? I really do not want spacers, but a brake upgrade would be nice. If the difference between stock and 199 mm is negligible, I will forgo it.

Thanks!

Something to consider, there is a decent amount of information out there that says if you go with the 231's in lieu of the 199's it can negatively affect your abs

For some reason, I all of a sudden can't view the photobucket pictures attached to this forum. Deleted my cache and history... could it be a update on the browser?

...nevermind, seems like they're making people pay.

Hey all, T4R noob here with a 2000SR5. I've been looking at this upgrade and was concerned about the wheels that came with my truck (first photo). Then I saw a tundra parked on the street with the same rims (second photo - note the larger rotor).

Are these in fact tundra wheels? They look identical to mine! Fingers crossed that I got lucky...

Amazing!

You've confirmed I actually lucked out with the right rims on this purchase. Now all I need to do is find the roof rack rails..

Relatively easy bolt off/bolt on install. Most difficult part was getting the brake line screwed back into the new calipers after they were mounted.

Tim's video can't be reposted enough, it made this job go so much smoother.

infamousRNR and I are always stoked to hear when our videos made somebodies mod or repair easier. Happy Wrenching my Central Texas 3rd Gen Brother!

Well, I finished the upgrade last night. So far so good. I haven't had any negative issues with the ABS (knock on wood). Thanks for the great DIY instructions and video.
