has anyone noticed this

I dropped off my sr5 yesterday afternoon for the transmission replacement. I hope to have it back very soon and hopefully this shudder thing will be fixed. Fingers crossed. I'll report back as soon as I get her back.
 
Update

Got mine in for 5k checkup and drove with the tech to show the shudder issue. When I returned to pick it up they explained that they worked with Toyota and were asked to provide them data on the car while driving warm and cold. Apparently all values were considered normal (as I understand it). Toyota did acknowledge that other 11 4runners have experienced this issue and they are currently in an "investigative/research" phase. No other direction at this time. Toyota Case number TA111880276. I wish there was more information but I am glad I got as far as I did on my first visit and that Toyota acknowledges there could be a problem. Hopefully they will have a solution soon. They also said that at this time they dont have any indication or concern that this will cause further damage......for what its worth.

They also asked if I noticed more when it was warm vs cold and I honestly never paid attention. Anyone else notice whether it was a warm cold issue? I have 5k miles so far... anyone notice this getting worse as time passes?

I then put him on a slight incline and asked try it now... truck did the most obvious shudder then.... he looked at me and said let's go back I'm going to call the Toyota factory rep and find out what they say. He agreed it is very obvious and consistently present and he wants to get an answer now himself. I'll post more as I hear back.

Today my service rep contacted me with a response from Toyota. He told me that the factory service rep advised him they were aware of the issue and were working on a soloution and expected a formal service notice within the next one/two months. He implied that it was going to be a ECU flush but could be something else depending on their final evaluation of the problem. He said the rep told him that there were many complaints already. At least I've heard my last "the truck is performing properly and there are no codes". Not saying they will fix it right, but I'm not getting that two headed look anymore.
 
I picked up my runner from the dealer this afternoon. So far I have not noticed the shudder in the new transmission, but I talked to the service rep and he said that it's still there and comes and goes. When he drove it he could still feel it some of the time. He also said that Toyota was working on the issue and he didn't know what they would do.

I always noticed the shudder more when the transmission was hot or in more stop and go traffic. I haven't really driven in stop and go traffic with the new transmission so I don't know if it will show back up.

I'm wondering now, how the transmission work will affect the trade in value, or if I should try and get rid of the 4runner under the lemon law. Not sure what to do.
 
Well, getting in touch with Toyota didn't do anything as I expected.

I've yet to see a tech at the dealerships around me who I would consider competent. These guys have enough trouble changing oil and rotating tires, def don't want to let them touch the trans.

So hopefully next week I will be doing the switch to synthetic trans fluid and am hoping that will help some though I am convinced it's something with the ECU.

I mentioned it to the dealer the last time i was there. I say 'mentioned' because I know that even if they did look at it there is nothing they could do. IMO its got to be software related and since they dont employ software engineers at the local dealership i figure the only likely fix will come from toyota HQ..... hopefully soon...
 
I have this same issue in my 2007 Prerunner. The truck has almost 80,000 miles on it and no tranny problems except the shudder. Had my fluid changed at 50,000 with no change. Was told at that time, that there is no problems that they know about with the trannies...

I haven't noticed it in the 4Runner yet and hope I never do. Less to worry about.
 
This process has been a nightmare. I finally have the truck back and it seems to be working fine right now.

My biggest fear when they said they were replacing the tranny was that the new one would be put in with issues. I was right, I picked it up and got it home and drove it for a day and noticed it was leaking fluid. I had them tow it back. Picked it up again, same thing. I had them tow it back a second time. :redbrick:

I think they fixed it this time, at least it isn't leaking. Actually the transmission seems to be working good. I have about 1000 miles on the new one and I really haven't felt the shudder yet at all. If I remember right I really didn't start noticing it the first time until it had 10,000 miles on it.

Hopefully they will get a permanent fix for this issue, before this new transmission starts acting up again.
 
I'm going to take my 2011 SR5 4x4 in within the next week to see what they tell me here in Oklahoma about this issue. I've noticed it pretty much from when I bought it and I now have almost 15k miles on it. I got it in late January and so I've noticed it just as bad when it was freezing outside versus now it has consistently been over 100 degrees every day for the past month. It's not getting better or worse as far as I can tell. It gets annoying after 15k miles though, I can tell you that. Hopefully Toyota will do something about this soon.

Good luck... let us know if there has been any progress. As of my last visit, noted earlier, I havent been notified that there is a fix. I have noticed that it happens only once the engine/tranny is warm. I took it out on the beach in deep lose sand today for about 20-40 miles and didnt notice it getting any worse... I am sure the tranny was hotter under 4wd in sand then 2wd commuting back and forth to work.

Well, switching over to synthetic fluid didn't really do much to remedy the issue, I still get the shudder, especially when I do a right turn.
Will prob trade it in later this year as I find this issue to be totally unacceptable. I knew I should have gotten a 4th gen when I had the chance.
 
Well it's been 2 months with the new transmission and about 5k on the tranny and 30k on the truck. I hate to say it but, I still feel the shudder every once in awhile. It's very random and acts about like it did when I first started noticing the shudder at 10k miles.

I'm just hoping that it doesn't keep getting worse like it did before. Wish me luck.:shrug:
 
I joined the forum because of this issue. I purchased a new SR5 that was manufactured in February of 2011. It's been back to the dealership four times so far. On the last trip I finally had a Toyata regional service rep say the problem is related to the catalytic converter, oxygen sensor and fuel sensor. In a summary, the sensors fight between monitoring the lean to rich ratio and the onboard computer can't keep up. Right now I am beign told "Toyata knows of the issue, but it is a matter of applying available resources among all current issues. Toyota cannot confirm when they will begin applying resources to this particular issue".

I take this to mean we are stuck living with it until enough of us raise a stink. I recommend contacting the Toyota Customer Care number and have them open a file number on your complaint.
 
I too notice this on hilly back roads around my place. i normally switch to manual shift, and the problem goes away, that to me means it's not a hard pressed issue, more of an annoyance, and hopefully wont damage anything while we wait for them to fix it.

I also notice the delay in gas response, Damn drive by wire ****! Give me a throttle cable and let me enjoy life! LOL
 
Before reading the latest posts I finally became convinced it was a harmonic vibration from certain road surfaces, speeds, and steering position. I only get it consistantly by exiting a parking lot at my local costco. Guess I'm lucky.

If only I had the same problem as you! :D I happen to have this problem practically everywhere I go. Stop & go traffic, from a red light/stop sign, etc.
