Hatch Ladder

I like the idea of a ladder to get to the roof. I don't like that you lose 12"-18" of the glass opening. I've seen a side ladder, but it was a full rear bumper replacement, which I actually like, but it's a waste of money for me because I don't need all it consists of. Is there an option for a half ladder? From bottom of hatch to bottom of glass. Not even sure there is even anything at the bottom of the glass opening to attach to.

You could fabricate one off a custom rear bumper. I wouldn't have the main attachment to anything else. Not a bad idea but at that point, if you have a rear swing out, you can just climb up the rear tire.

I assume OP is concerned about losing the ability to load or unload an object through the glass window that would exceed what width is remaining after the obstruction from the ladder?

Perhaps you could re-work a Gobi rack with some kind of "quick disconnect" feature, rather than going full custom for something that probably won't be a daily obstruction.

Forgive my ignorance, or unwillingness to look it up, but how do these rack ladder's actually mount to the vehicle? Specifically I'm curious about the bottom mount?

I agree with Scharfschutze about some kind of quick disconnect, but do not even know how it connects regularly to speculate on it.

*Edit* -- I just looked at the install instructions.. I feel like you are just going to lose that window space unless you have some decent fabrication skills
