I've done the bulb swap to the HIR's (High's) and H9's (lows). I would never look anywhere else. My lights are way brighter than my wife's Acura TL with factory HID's!

PIAA Bulbs
When I purchased my 4Runner in 2003 I replaced the Low Beam bulbs with PIAA bulbs (Super White), a name they no longer use from looking at their current product list. They are brighter than stock, but not HID bright. They also are still working after 8 years of use. (2003-2011).

The legit HID kits are pretty much plug in. For some, if you buy the entire housing with the Halo's or LED's then you have to wire them in so they come on when you want them. But just the HID bulb kits are supposed to be fairly easy to do. I would suggest you just get a nice set of White LED bulbs.

I know it is an expensive option but if you do a 06+ headlight upgrade you can get HIDs. The HID part is cheap but the headlight upgrade is the expensive part. I was lucky and got my 06 headlights for 200 total.
But if you go HID go through DDM tuning. Get HID's for 25 bucks and a lifetime warranty.

ddmtunning hid kits are crap, they give mis inform information, also the color of the hid is a mix, if u get like a 6000k its gona be a 8000k, if u have an order of 2 like one 5000k and 6000k u will get a blend of mix color kit.

I know tons of people that run them, along with myself, and they work great. I could care less about the "perfect" color temp, although I've had no problems out of mine. I still don't think they can be beat for the price. However, supporting a company with poor business practices is another thing in it's entirety.

I can vouch for XenonDepot. I have four of their HID kits and no issues with any of them. XD has excellent customer service and business practices. XD is an active member here before being a sponsor.
I haven't use DDM Tuning HIDs and I'm not saying their product is good or bad.
IMO, I bought a Toyota for its reliability and will do the same for accessories that goes in it, even though they are less expensive alternatives. My two cents.

:iagree: with UNEEK. I've been using a kit from Xenondepot for the past 2 years with absolutely no problems with the bulbs or balasts. Good products for sure. :cheers:

After all I have a pension coming from them!:
I have had the Philips X-tremes for about 6 months and love them. There is a nice even white light and 100% better than the OEMs. I bought them because of the short life stories about the SilverStars.

I recommend a 4300k kit for you and i can assist you with that i also sell hid kits. why would you not want hids. Also thanks for that riceandpho i knew there was something wrong with those kits. That price just seemed to cheap for a kit doesnt even sound right..

Go to ddmtuning.com, i have the 8,000k on mine but if you dont want a blue look then get 5,000k. They have a lifetime warranty and its all plug and play, took me literally 3 minutes total. I highly recommend their slim ballast kit, you cant beat $45 for a pair of lifetime warranty LEGIT hids. :reddance:

And with all honesty, if you want to spend the cash go with XD. They're a bit expensive for me knowing ive used DDM for 2 years now as well with zero problems.

I guess i'll contribute my experiences since I am currently running both the XD and the DDM kits and have run 3 separate manufacturers (XD, DDM, Philips) overall.

I've owned two sets of Xtreme HID kits (lows and fogs) for almost 4 years (Nov. 2007) with no issues other than having to replace one bulb after a water crossing that flooded my fog light housing - which obviously cannot be blamed on the kit. Build quality is excellent and has ignited everytime I've turned them on. Customer service is top notch.
A friend is running their Volt HID product for two years now with no issues to speak of.
DDM tuning
I've installed 10+ kits on various vehicles for the past 2 years and I'm currently running two sets of the slim ballast version in my Lightforces. Neither myself or my friends have experienced any issues with flickering, non-ignition or early failure (knowing my friends, if something went wrong I would be the first person they would complain to). Build quality for the slim ballasts are also excellent and has ignited for me every time even after constant on/off operations as well as long duration testing.
We're all aware that the DDM kits are made in china. And with some recent orders, the raptor kits and some replacement bulbs came directly from China while my replacement H11 bulb came from their CA distribution center. Not a big deal, just wanted people to be aware of it.
Regarding the Raptor kits, the feel of them are not as solid as the slim ballast. There is some give on the flat part of the ballasts which doesn't convey the same kind of confidence that the slim ballast kits do. However, they ignited the first time we turned them on and has worked flawless since.
Conclusion
In my experience, you can't go wrong with either kit. I recommend both kits to my friends depending on their price range.
If you are looking for exceptional customer service with good build quality then go with Xenon Depot. They have always been very responsive and informative when I've had questions.
If you are budget conscious and just want a kit that works, then DDMtuning is the way to go.

with ddm, even tho its at 45 or wat ever, u still pay the state tax if ur in ca and the shipping is about 15 or so, all together is close to 60, now on ebay, i get it from user autosky, its about 35 bucks or so to your door, its slim and works great, quality is there like xenon depot, but if you are not doing a retrofit, u might as well spend as less as possible on ebay kits, just dont ever get the xentec brand of hid, worst kit ever,stay away from xentec. I bought about 10 kits from autosky and it seem solid, no flicker. but if ur doing a retro, i suggest oem(denso, matsu****a) or morimoto (theretrofitsource.com)
