Headliner wiring re-attachment

I not-so-recently removed my headliner to track down a leak that was coming down my side pillars and soaking my seat belts... Long story short, don't cheap out on a roof rack, get a quality one like Sherpa :guitar3: or Prinsu, maybe even Victory 4X4.

Anyway - When I removed the headliner, there was obviously a snake of wiring for the dome lights all the way back and the wiring was stuck to the headliner with some black hard silicone material... What is this? I am finally in the process of needing to get the headliner back up there and reattach the pathway of wires to the headliner, but I already read that it's a big "no-no" to use hot glue, I don't think double sided tape will hold the wires to the headliner and all the silicone that I have seen is going to stay wet and tacky for hours...

Any Toyota techs happen to know - Or what have you done to resecure all the wiring when the headliner has been out?

I think your best bet is going to be the service manual. There are some copies floating around on the internet. I've got one somewhere, If I find it/ relevant pages Ill let you know

About to tackle this myself. What did you end up using to secure the wires?

Looks like double sided tape with extra tackiness. I'm sure there is a 3M product that will work. Could be costly. When I replace my ratty headline, I will try to re-use as much old tape as I can.

here you go on how its routed on the headliner. if you want to be cheap as possible, use some quality duct tape.

About to tackle this myself. What did you end up using to secure the wires?

Probably overkill but I used 3M VHB double sided tape in a 1” width (25mm) and then used a high density foam tape over the top of that.

I wished I’d gotten 2 of each, would’ve made it a little better for my OCD but it got the job done with about 5” of the foam left. The high density foam worked great because the 1” wide 3M tape is much wider than your wires, so the sticky side of the foam covers up your 3M adhesive (the other side of the foam isn’t adhesive) and also sandwiches the wire securely. My wire harness got twisted quite a bit from the headliner being out so long so it wasn’t perfect but it’s more than safe up there. In addition, there hasn’t been any rattles and all the clips securing the headliner up, took a little bit more pressure to secure, so I’m confident in it outlasting the truck.

Life would be easier if there is a connector at the A-pillar.
