Help, Air suspension is stuck, Is there a manual release valve??

Hi all,

I've come across members with the same problem but have not heard of a manual release valve or how to release the air from the bags. My rig is currently stuck in the high position and the off light for the height control on the dash is flashing. As already mentioned in some threads here, parts like compressors and sensors are lots of coin. I could use some help in just bringing the rear end to the normal position with the intention to leave it there. Thank you in advance..

I had this same problem ...fortunately (or unfortunately) it happened while my T4R was on the hoist at the dealership - the back end just jacked all the way up.

As you say, the cost of diagnosis and parts (compressors and sensors) to repair this was not worth it to me.

So my mechanic just leveled the T4R and disabled the height adjust.

I did not get to see how this was done, but it sounds a little tricky, so I might advise a visit to your Toyota dealer.

Note that the T4R will ride hard with the height adjust on high - drive slow and careful.

Thanks Bossman. This mechanic, was he a buddy at a local garage or at the stealership?? Im trying to avoid going there hence the reason for canvassing help for info. But appreciate the comment. What you did is exactly the end result Im aiming for.

Hey Flipcanuk,

He is a mechanic at my local dealership ... but he is the only mechanic there that I allow to work on my T4R ... we have developed a good rapport over the years and I trust him.

They did not charge me anything for the levelling, so I have no idea what this might cost at the dealership. As mentioned, it did sound a little tricky in getting the right height then disengaging the height control. I suspect it took a few mechanics to get this right.

But when they started quoting me prices on parts and labour to restore the height adjust, the mechanic and service manager (who I have known for 20+ years) both agreed the best course of action was to disable the height control.

A dealership is likely to have seen this problem before, as opposed to an independent mechanic.

Thats definitely my intention. I did speak to a toyota service guy who finally knew what I was talking about. He says it's what we suspect. Either the sensors or the release valve which is attached to the compressor. Says about 80 percent of the time it'll be the release valve which means replacing the expensive compressor. I'll be making an appointment and crossing my fingers. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks

Hopefully it works out ok, and they don't charge you too much (or anything) to get your height adjust disengaged.

I certainly have not missed having this feature - I probably tried it once when I bought my T4R (for the novelty of it, of course). I do not do a lot of heavy towing to require it, so definitely not worth the cost of expensive repairs.
