Help me with some conjencture...

Well folks, I went and did it.

Traded the beloved 4R for the beater on the right of the photo.

Looks so good! Congrats! Hopefully it treats you well. I know I'm late, but if you have complications with the Raptor and decide to get rid of it, I recommend a slightly used newer Landcruiser or a top trim GX

Won't be available until the spring, but should be fantastic for towing 5k... and the off-road capabilities out of the box will beat what you got... Plus killer mpg if you go for the diesel.

Other than that.. if you tow often.. just can't beat a full size truck.

I would never waste time or money on a LC... I can see why some people like them..., but a huge heavy out of date pig IHMO. I understand that statement will get some people all up in arms... but I've observed them carefully and just not impressed at all. The old 80s are great but talk about lack of power for towing....

Another good option would be just to keep the 4th gen (they are great) and buy a tow rig for daily....

BINGO! ZR2! This would be a far cheaper option than any you listed other than another 4Runner...The ZR2 is way more capable than any option you listed right out of the box with front and rear lockers. Also I have never been a fan of the ecoboost. Not for any reason other than it's just a lot of technology that may have long term reliability issues. Wish they still had the 6.2 v8 in the Raptor. The LC is awesome but out dated and heavy. It will last your lifetime. I feel it is way overpriced. Wish Toyota would allow us to have the 70 series here. The 4runner is great but again you have to put money into it to get it where you want it. So I think the ZR2 is would serve you well.

I loved my 4R. Of the 15 cars I have owned in my lifetime, it was the one I kept the longest, drove the most miles and depended on the most. It was like a member of my family.

But I hate to break it to Toyota fans (unless you already know). Toyota is stuck in a rut now with an aging product line that is outclassed by a lot of competitors. The Raptor was $70k OTD, and if I had gotten a used LX570 or Land Cruiser for the same money, I still wouldn't have nearly the same power, offroad capabilities or fuel economy. Not to mention the extra $20k and countless hours it would take me to build the damn Toyota. And the way my Raptor is spec'd, I'd venture a guess that it's even a bit more luxurious than the $100k Lexus. And don't even get me started on the 4R. 250 horse V6 with a 5 speed transmission went out of style back in 2010! The 4R is the step child that has been neglected over the years.

The Raptor is turnkey, no Toyota on the market today is. The Ford is definitely not going to be as reliable or dependable as the Toyota, not in a million years. But the Toyota product line is so stale that I am trading reliability for performance.

Please don't read this as a guy *****ing on his way out - read the first paragraph of this reply to know how much I respect Toyota.

For $70k I can weld two new SR5-s together and get a 500+ HP vehicle:)
Awesome truck you have there, congrats! I loved the previous gen Raptor too but on this new one Ford really put an honest effort into distinguishing the looks from a base F150. Hope you will enjoy it, in the meanwhile we 4runner owners will have to revert to the marker lights in grille thread:)
 
Beautiful. My dream truck. I would do the same and trade up in a minute if it was financially feasible. Please share your thoughts about the 2017 Raptor.
