I would also be in for a GB
I will set it up once we know that we have a product to buy.
I don't think I should set one up BEFORE Scott know that he can make a product.
scottmcphee PM me your email contact. Maybe I can get a pre-order list going for you.
Sorry I have been absent here a bit.. But now its a weekend and i have more time to into projects like this. I am in Alberta there are tons of these trucks around here to look at.
Here's the issue... I don't have blank stock cases and sockets for these bigger Toyota flashers so I can't make tons of them. A group buy i really a stretch idea right now. First things first... Getting one functional.
Then suppose it works well enough... The trick is getting ahold of some of these flashers that I can gut and stuff TapTurn components into.
A good source would be used parts and pulls from junkers. I woukd hate to buy new just to gut them... Costs go up. I would probably start by making a core exchange offer... Send in an old flasher with some money and you'd get one back with TapTurn inside.
So there's a few variants of flashers for the generations of 4runners.
I've evaluated the effects would be by dropping in the existing TapTurn design into these different flasher packages.
1. For the 12 pin flasher that uses front signals as DRL: By deleting the DRL function and hardwiring the front signal to always blink in unison with the rear signal on the same side, TapTurn would be a drop-in replacement that would deliver all TapTurn functions. Or, with a slight modification of the TapTurn design, I think it could retain DRL function, but may end up with wonky blinks (front and back would be out of phase by 1/2 cycle).... sort of a wig-wagging between front and back when viewing the truck from the side.
2. For the 18 pin flasher (schematics in this thread), which uses front signal bulbs as DRL, and has trailer towing light function: I could either delete the DRL or retain it with a slight design change, as above, but would have to delete the towing lights. Adding towing lights from the flasher would be a big redesign for TapTurn. (But you could add a common 5-wire trailer light adapter at the rear of the truck, wired into tail lights, like lots of vehicles do to compensate for the loss.)
3. For the 18 pin flasher for the latest T4R generation (that I have in my hand), which uses hi-beam half bright as DRL, and has no towing brake lights function: Without a redesign of TapTurn I'd have to lose the DRL function. (You could drive with low beams switched on to compensate). But other than that all TapTurn function would work.
It boils down to things like how important is DRL to you? Could you stand using your low beams instead if DRL was deleted? DO you have a towing package and depend on that socket back there... or meh, never tow?
What I think I'll do is start by taking the flasher I've got, delete the DRL function and drop in a stock TapTurn inside.

Someone linked me to the 2014+ diagrams for the headlights system.
It is the trailer stuff that causes me a headache for existing TapTurn design.
I have to give up that trailer function if we cram existing TapTurn. The DRL on hi-beams is controlled by another module, so that should be unaffected by TapTurn.
This is the opposite of what you're willing to give up, itsdchz
The trailer function is important to me and I use the 7 prong towing connector to control brakes and lights on my trailer.
I'm in for option #1. There's no love loss for DRL. When can I send you money? [emoji4]
So I have a 2013 SR5. I am in and never use the drl. I don't know how many pins I have. Also, will it have the strobe and whatnot features as well?
Wait for my group buy...... :bounce:
Can someone hook up to trailer lights and answer those questions please? Obviously you don't need to hitch up and tow, just get near enough to plug electricals together.
