Here's Some Help with Navigation Install

Thanks for the chart. Still don't know which plug the two sound wires go to. There are 2x 20pin plug on the Solara unit I am trying to place in my 4runner. As I mentioned before there is one with idential 20 holes and one which has 16 idential and 4 bigger holes (bigger ones are first and last one on each row) Help please.....

My diagram clearly indicates which plug you need to attach the wires to. It's labeled R5 and the diagram depicts the shape of the plug accurately.
All pins are the same size. This one R5 connects in the center back of the unit near the bottom whereas the other 20 pin plug connects higher up on the back if my memory serves me right .

ADDING DVD TO NAV!!!
Ok... just read this entire nav thread, just read the entire nav thread on the sienna site. Just bought the solar nav from oemvalue.com. Next:
We (4R owners) have yet to find a way to add DVD playback to the nav screen. Sienna owners can do it due to the rear seat entertainment pins... we don't have those.
Let's brainstorm... anything... There must be some switch we can use in conjuction w/ the reverse camera pins. Has anyone tried adding a dvd player to the reverse camera pins and putting the 4R in reverse??? Does the DVD show on the screen???
We can do this!!!
Any ideas???

actually, I believe it's the lack of a RSE ECU where the dvd player is. apparently each of the devices is on a network of sorts such that they communicate with each other. For example, the RSA has those TX+ TX- so the head unit knows it's there.
The interesting thing is that the 03 4runner wiring diagram for the navigation system shows a "DVD Automatic Changer" hooked up partially to the RSA device and partially directly to the nav head unit. one of those wires is labeled ntsc. Hmm...video...Sooo...it must be possible somehow. the wiring diagram might still be available in another thread here. once you get it, look at 062nsrap.pdf page 2 and 3 and you'll see what I'm talking about...
been tried. bad idea. not only does the nav system superimpose a "Check your surroundings..." thing on top of the picture, it also uses the REV sensor to determine where you're going. the nav actually navigates from the gyro sensor and the status of the rev pin to determine forward/backward direction. and just updates via gps. some people reported that it did many funny things for them. personally, I'm going to add a switch to force my rear view camera on at certain times. for example, when hooking up to a trailer, I would also like to see where my ball and the trailer tongue is even when I pull forward...as it stands now, I can see beautifully when in reverse, but the moment I shift out of reverse to pull forward to straighten up, I lose the picture and can't tell where I am. now, I'm not going to be driving a long way with it like that so I won't be confusing the nav unit.

I have been taking the 4runner onto the beach this summer but I have been having trouble with the NAV right afterwards. It has me all over the map.
I point to 2 things that may be causing the problems and I was wondering if anyone had advice/comments.
1) since I am on the sand, that probably distorts the speed vs location of 4runner. (ie tire doesn't get same traction)
2) Fishing Rods mounted on roof may be blocking GPS signals.
The problems only occur after leaving the beach and are usually corrected within 5 mins or so but I'm curious what is causing the problem and what I may be able to do about it.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Toyota Labor Cost
I just purchased the Solara NAV unit from OEMValue. I have a 2004 Limited. I can and have changed out stereos on older vehicles but this seems a little rough. Does anyone know what Toyota charges for an install if I bring it in? I stopped by today and they were dumbfounded as to how to install it. They said they could do it but before I say say (which I know $ is a rip) I would like to get some info from you all. If its outrageous I will do the venture myself. Thanks.

I would say with the help of this forum you could do it. Of course I didn't install mine but that was before I knew how much info there was available.
DON"T GET IT INSTALLED AT A DEALERSHIP$$$$$
They seem dumb-founded because they ARE!
Find a good stereo shop that has experience with aftermarket NAV systems and print out some the instructions in this thread. They should have no problems if they are compitant.
Cost me $150.00 for the install.
But I will say my install guy called me about an hour into it and did not have a clue. I sent the link to the PIN location information in this thread and he was done in an hour.
Read the thread all the way through and you just may decide to do it yourself!!!

I am now just venturing into the voice output (I just received the speaker). I just took the nav to san diego... it helped me out a lot! Any restaurant was a couple taps away.
ONLY ONE PROBLEM!!!
So often, I wanted to search for something while driving. It was a PITA having to pull over to do a search.
I remember someone installed a timer to the speed sensor? If you aren't getting GPS signal at the time, doesn't that mess up your location until you do get the signal? This is the first mod I will do here. Second is the voice, then I WILL tackle video on the nav screen.

As per my last question: 2004 4Runner Limited w/ JBL 6 cd changer and 10 speaker system.
I have decided to bypass the dealer on my install and do it myself!
After tearing out my dash and pulling out my old JBL 6 changer im am a little stumpped on my next step. I have gone to Radio Shack and picked up this Amplified Mobile Extension Speaker http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&product_id=21-541 Will this work? It has a 4 inch speaker and 8 watt amp!
I look on the back of my Solara NAV and i have wires installed by OEMValue on 2 diff plugs, 1 plug on left (5 pin plug; parking break, reverse wire and speed sensor plug) I have wires attached to pins 1 and 3. Also 20 pin plug (rear Seat Audio), attached are wires on bottom row pins 3rd to last and last pin Where do I hook these wires for the speed and reverse? Also, how do I hook the rear seat audio plug in if there are wires in this plug from OEMValue? I would like to keep my rear seat audio! Is that possible?
Im not very great at electronics so if possible can you please break it down for me. Much appreciated.

Here is the link. You may have missed it while reading the associated threads. A well written descripton of the connections to the speed and park signals. Credit goes to petegaz for this excellent post. Worked flawlessly for me the first time.

As for the wires you have coming RC5 connector. I did not get a RC5 connector when I received my nav sys so I inserted the pins into my existing pin connector so I still get the rear seat audio and the steering remote works fine. This is the best way to do it. Pin 13 (your description - third to last) is the shield/signal ground and pin 11 (Your description - last pin) is the signal line.

Window tinting and GPS antenna.
I was going to have window tinting added but the guy at the shop I went to said that it would reduce or eliminate my GPS reception. He suggested adding an external GPS antenna.
Do you agree that the tint would cause problems with the nav unit?
