HID Install for 2006 4Ruunner

As far as legality goes, any HID system installed outside of the factory are not DOT approved. Only factory-installed systems are technically legal. As for the XenonDepot kits, most people can't tell the difference once they're installed, so don't worry about it. Just make sure the headlights are adjusted correctly so the cutoff line is correct and other drivers aren't blinded. If that's done correctly, the 4Runner will look just like a Lexus rolling down the street. Nobody will know the difference (except us!).

As for the harness vs. no harness issue, the argument has been made that a separate harness is designed to protect the factory wiring from being "overwhelmed" by the added draw with the HID system. The XenonDepot harness, for instance, is plug and play and comes with an inline fuse. It's designed to tap into the stock Toyota harness at the driver side bulb connector only for triggering the system on and off. That way, when you turn the headlight switch inside the vehicle, it simply activates the self-contained HID system to trigger on. Then, only the wires and components of that system are used to power the headlights. The beauty of this design is the system is self-contained and won't effect any of the factory wiring or harm your vehicle. Plus, it's easy to take out if needed and convert back to the stock setup.

Finally ordered!!

Hi guys,

I finally ordered my HID kit for my 06 SE from XenonDepot yesterday so I should be getting it next week.

Just want to check regarding the use of the relay harness that comes with XenonDepot kit. I've installed another kit from ProXenon in the past and everything connected directly to the factory harness and I did not have to connect anything to the battery except changing the factory headlight fuse to a lower AMP.

Can anyone please help confirm if there is a way to complete the installation without leaving out and taping up the passenger factory harness?

As nice as the final outcome of the whole installation shown by T4Runner06, I somehow feel weird about having a factory harness dangling outside and taped up.

Thanks!

I also got the kit from Xenon Depot, but however my harness is different then
T4Runner06's mine's have two relays, so you won't have to tape it up like T4Runner06's. Awesome kit, well worth the money!

Problems with Xenon Depot

Hi I just want to tell, that on June 26th I made an order of 2 kits 4300k to Xenon Depot (with Steve). At this date I haven't receive the order.

On July 14th Steve wrote an E-mail that said: "Upon finaly insepction, we realized that we had been sent the wrong kits. The kits we received were designed for fog light applications meaning that if you had installed the product your beam pattern would not be proper. As a result, we had to halt the DHL shipments as we want to make sure that you receive the proper product".

Does any one that bought at Xenon Depot had the same problem?

I'm frustated with Xenon Depot....

Re: Problems with Xenon Depot

Well, I can say that all businesses make mistakes from time to time, even ones with a great reputation like XenonDepot. I don't know exactly how this mistake was made, but it sounds like they're trying to make it right. I know I was happy with my service and others have commented the same, so this is probably a fluke. And at least they realized their mistake prior to you receiving the wrong part and wasting time installing it. Perhaps they'll refund your shipping charges due to the time delay... that sounds fair. I understand your frustration, but I think their overall reputation will remain. Keep us posted and let us know if they make you happy.

This topic has been discussed before, but basically, if you have REFLECTOR headlights designed for halogens (looks like little mirrors behind the bulb), an HID kit will produce lots of glare. That can't be avoided because the headlights are designed to increase the amount of light given off by the halogen bulb. The resulting glare is what attracts cops because the lights are clearly not original like that from the factory.

We are fortunate enough to have 06s with the halogen projectors, so that glare is not a big issue, provided the headlights are aimed correctly and the cutoff line isn't too high (blinding oncoming drivers). Although these projectors are designed for halogen bulbs and aren't optimized for HIDs, the HID kits work pretty well in them anyway. And the best part, aside from the great look and performance, is cops don't really notice unless they're really familiar with each particular car. I know most people can't tell that my HIDs are aftermarket, so that's a bonus.

An option you might want to consider is converting your headlights to 06 headlights. I know there is a slight difference in trim pieces, but it has been done by others on this forum and they seem to like it.

yah i notice that too how gay is that well with fitting it with new headlights would be about 1200 i looked into that and it does not fit very well there is a gap...guess i have to stick with my stock headlights

The factory warranty can't be voided unless the factory headlight wire harness melted, which it won't since the Xenon Depot kit comes with a wiring harness that draws power from the battery. (The HIDs are activated via a relay that is connected to the factory headlight plug.) The kit is a complete plug and play install, so if there were any problems with the truck, you would remove the wiring harness, HID capsules and ballasts and reinstall the factory halogen bulbs. That's the beauty of the Xenon Depot kit.

4RunnerRon has the 4300k H11 kit. You didn't mention what year 4Runner you have, for 2006 with the projectors you need a H11 kit. If you have a 2003-05, you need a 9006 kit for your low beams. The fogs are 9006 and high beams are 9005. The different kits come with specific connectors to match the factory plugs and HID capsule bases to fit the headlight housings.

my bad i have an 2006 sport v8
so i would need 4300k H11 kit, The fogs are 9006 and high beams are 9005 , are the 9005 and 9006 kits 2 they don't have like and all in one kit

ok just got the HID kit will let now how in stall goes and would u recomend that i put in brighter fog lights and high beams if so what should i go with

You will need a kit for each pair of lights you're planning on upgraded to HID. Each kit consists of two ballasts, igniters, capsules and a wiring harness. Each HID capsule requires a ballast and igniter, thus if you wanted to upgrade all the front lighting you would need three kits.

Also, I would recommend against upgrading your high beams to HIDs unless you don't flash them. HIDs take a couple seconds to fully light up and quick on and offs are not good for the HID system.

HID Conversions

For those of you with 03-05 TR4's without projector headlights, I began with an 8K HID from CA Sushine nearly 2 years ago without issues from anyone including the authorities and state inspection, which is a surprise since I was slightly paranoid granted the 8K is far more bluish than any stock HID light. I have recently installed a 4.3K Xenon Depot Kit in the headlights and put 3K bulbs in my CA Sunshine kit in the fogs without issue. Worried about glare? Buy the JDM Black Headlights from Burtman for $219. Glare is greatly reduced according to those on this forum that have them.

help needed with xenondept Xtreme 6500K H11 kit!!

does anyone have the xtreme 6500K H11 kit? i bought it from xenon depot for my 06 SE. the wiring harness and components are different from the regular HID 6000K or 43000K kit. The instructions provided from xenondepot aren't clear as to setting up the lights and wiring harness. I tried to do it like it was done for the regular HID 4300 kit and it didn't work! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

i don't really have a xenon depot kit but based on my experiences with HID kits, it might be the connections or even the ground... have you tried installing it? or you haven't done it yet because the instructions were not such a big help?
I just installed a kit on my 06 t4r a few days ago, using a ballast that i had on my previous car with an H11 bulb, the first test failed then i tried moving the ground wire to a different grounding point and it fired up instantly.
