HID projector foglight questions

Ok so I just did the HID in stock projector foglight mod and used the short bulbs from xentec with good ballasts from my buddy's shop just like the how to thread on here states I should use, but now every time I turn the fogs on I blow the original 15amp fuse. Is it safe to run a larger fuse in the stock system just because it's been upgraded to HID bulbs? Or will the fact that the harness, fusebox, switch, relay, etc is all stock make it sketchy to up the fuse?

The fuse is there to limit current. Why would you put a larger fuse in it, you'd run the risk of overloading the oe harness.

Hook up the OE wire to trigger a relay, and use the relay to pass the power to the fogs.

That said, wattage is wattage. I put in a lower wattage HID kit in the Hella micro DEs I have, and have not had issues. Its the same wattage as the OE fogs.

Yea I know that, but I've heard of some people that use the next size up fuse safely in some applications. I figured I would ask before installing a relay harness, but it looks like that's my safest bet. It's a 35w kit so idk why it's doing this, maybe just the higher draw from igniting the lights exceeding the 15 amps.

Good to see that someone utilized my thread. I should have stated that I did update the fuse to 20 amp, but I don't think that is your problem. It sounds like you have a short...

MTD, i did utilize your thread. i did the mod exactly and worked great for me and i didn't even change the fuse and was fine with no issues at all. id say the same, you have a short possibly. recheck all the wiring.

Yea the thread was super helpful, I think I have to check the wiring again and make sure my heat shrink and everything is in tact. I have an extra relay harness from my old truck that I never used, I'll just use it for this project.

Neato! Glad to hear it helped! I think using that relay harness will eliminate your problems too.

Im not sure what you guys have done as far as wiring, but When I got my cheapo amazon 55w pnp hid kit it came with a harness that had its own fuse, it connected directly to the battery and used the original power line for the lamp as a signal to know when to turn on and off. Id say you would be ok with a higher amperage because you will only pull the higher current for less than a second, The wires really will only get damaged with prolonged exposure.
