Yes.
I just installed a set of HIDs on mine. And light output is far improved.
Of course, the best thing to do is swap in a set of HID projectors. But even with the factory halogen projectors, the light output and beam pattern is more than just acceptable.
I spent quite some time comparing stock (halogen) to HID in various settings (sorry, I don't have pics). The result was very cut and dry... an HID in factory projectors excelled in output in every setting.

Seriously? You came up dry? I think almost everyone on this forum has HIDs in their low beam spots at this point lol.

I kid, but seriously here are a couple of resources for you of the guys that I looked to when I did mine this past week. [MENTION=129593]MTN4RNR[/MENTION] used the [MENTION=12905]XenonDepot[/MENTION] philips xtreme HID kit (4200k) and has great install and before / after pics, and [MENTION=103267]Saker[/MENTION] used the Morimoto kit from The Retrofit Source and also has a great install writeup. I'm sure there are others out there, too.

FWIW, some enterprising souls (cough [MENTION=85512]eddiebx[/MENTION] cough) here have also swapped the H9 high beam bulb into the H11 low beam spot after some minor trimming of the metal fitment at the base of the bulb with great results. BTW, I too have done the 9011 HIR bulbs upgrade to the high beam location with very good results on output......

I did and they are definitely bright.
And for low beams I went with the XD HID my with the Phillips 4300 upgrade. Great value for a mod. Cannot imagine going back to halogen.
Would do it again, maybe even before upgrading tires. I benefit from my light upgrade more often than any other mod to my 4runner.

I know they're supposed to glare, but I when I aim my lights at a large, flat, dark wall I can not find anything above the cutoff that would remotely be considered glare.

I have a HID kit in stock 2014 projector headlights and my cutoff is sharp. I know there's people that would say it's stupid to do that without a real retrofit but i dont have any complaints. I would rather use those funds for other mods. No one has highbeamed me yet and I live in the city. I say go for it.

I have the same, but I cheaped out and went with the 5000k standard bulb in my kit. I have been very happy with my setup. I drive about 80% country, 20% city and have had no issues with people flashing me.

Everyone beat me to it but I found all the information I needed about HID lights via search.
With that being said, I bought XenonDepot 5k HID kit. The light output is solid, but it's more of a cool white vs. a warm white. I haven't had any issues so far and I hid my ballasts on the inside frame that's covered by the plastic so it's not exposed.
I hear the 4300k Philips has the best light output but it's only by a few hundred lumens, and it's a warm white vs. a cool white. TRS and XD are solid light choices IMHO.

Toyota and their partners (Koito projectors?) designed the headlights to have a specific, measured amount of light above the cutoff. Anything more than intended by the manufacturer is glare (and is probably too much for the other drivers, regardless of whether or not you think it's a big deal on your garage door or wall). So no, they are not supposed to glare. Sorry.
Sad to see that it is almost the de facto standard to put PNP kits on these.

So this gets debated from time to time, mostly folks seem to fall on one side or the other. I've driven with a guy with a 14 Trail that had the HID in the factory low beam. My honest opinion is that yes there is glare and yes I found it annoying.
Now was it enough that when I passed him I would want to flash him, no not at all. In fact I find some of the newer Acura lights are almost as annoying in certain conditions. It's also nowhere near as bad as morons that put HID in a normal halogen housing, those folks get a flash from me most of the time (Why is it almost always a lifted full size pickup?).
