how difficult (and costly) was it to fabricate that?

Cost:
- $80 worth of steel (I used a little more than half of a 4'x8' sheet, for which I paid $140)
- $30 worth of cutting wheels, flap discs, and grinding wheels
- $50 worth of welding wire, drill bits, and rotary rasps
- $60 to replace my Harbor Freight angle grinder & drill, both of which I burned up making the front skid.
Total, about $200, and I spent about 35 hours on the two skids. Not terribly difficult, but not an easy project either.

There's a lot of really cool stuff in this thread!
Just a simple moo-box fix with a 20 year old mustard tin, a couple of fittings and some JB Weld. Vaguely visible is the strap of aluminum to hold my aux fuse block and a couple of relays next to it. I've also bolted a bike water bottle cage to the side of my air box and now use a water bottle for my coolant reservoir.
There's more, but one can only post so much hoopty at a time.

I also made a cargo box that works great for me. Link to the full thread is in my signature, but here are a couple pictures of it.

I also added a sliding lid in the left drawer, which acts as a place to set stuff you're removing from the other side. Or, in our case a portable changing table:moon:. In this next picture, you can see it slid into the forward position.
This time around, I also chose to add a rear cubby that spans the width of the box. This is great for longer items, like my umbrella. Or, items like my jumper cables that I always have but rarely use.

Consequently, when the double decker shelf is in place, this cubby is completely hidden, so the rear cubby also acts as a great hiding place for valuables if you're at a trailhead, disc golf course or camping etc.

Your cargo box looks so good it made me decide to finish out mine with a carpeted floor, though my woodworking skills aren't even close to yours.

The floor is hinged on the right to give access to the factory storage compartment.

Made a skid plate
Belly skids
Scepter MWC roof top carrier.
Mic holder. I made two, one for each side of the tunnel. One for CB, one for HAM.
Bezel for my Yaesu 8800 along with relocated Mic input and aux USB socket.
Not 4Runner related but I made it. Bottle opener.

4X4mike - impressive! You obviously have more time, money, and talent than I.
Not Runner related but something I love doing, just wish my day job paid more and I could make tables lol
this aluminum one was crazy. First I polished everything then welded it together. A grinder has never touched it.
Now the wife renovated our TV room so there is another table in the future
