Above the tail light CB antenna mount

Decided I wanted a mount that was above the tail light. I bought some 1/8" plate for under $10 at a local steel yard and made a few versions of the template out of poster board until I had what I wanted and copied it over to the plate. I finished it off with some Krylon red oxide primer and Krylon Satin black paint, and epoxied some thin foam to the areas in close contact with the body to keep the paint happy. I like how it turned out despite the time involved.

Basically it's a piece of gutter screen cut so that it fits into the groove of the window on the top side and has a channel that the window slides into one the bottom side.

Do you have a link to the actual product? I've never seen this kind at a home depot

Hey, just update and pics. The top two straps are need to be two hole type for more strength , that will bee done after paint. Otherwise I'm happy how it turned out. Pre drill and use pan head 1-1/4 metal screws. I checked on my parts truck to make sure I didn't hit wires or such. Homemade is the best

Do you have room to get your hand behind it to clean your windows still? Looks like a great idea!

Yes, but not much room. Just a few screws to remove. Instead of two hole style, I'm going to try these coated tubing straps.

Good thinking. I use those at work at times. If you get the right size, they hold tight so no squeaking or shifting.

Though if you just use screws.... After a few times of removing them they may not stay tight. I was maybe thinking metal sheetrock anchors or small toggle bolts.

....dang, my list of "projects" keeps getting longer. I knock out 3 but add 4. :smashputer:

Good point, maybe I'll loctite the top fasteners and only remove the Lowe anchor points and swing the rack up to clean. All my screws are in the metal below the plastic. Trial and hopefully little error.

I built my front and rear bumpers, roof rack, ladder and motorcycle carrier all from scratch.

I also added a second rear receiver just off the panhard bar crossmember so my motorcycle carrier slides through the stock one, then into and pins in the new one to give a ton more torsional strength to the whole setup so i don't end up bending my stock receiver towards the ground, and made a front receiver too, just in case!
