How do I determine if my SR5 has a locker rear ?

My GF and I just purchased a 2011 SR5 on Friday and I was just curious what we bought. :nerd:

We didn't do alot of homework on them because we decided it was 'gonna be either a Rubicon or a 4Runner and just so happens we got the best deal on the 4Runner. We were hoping to find a Trail edition because she is in love with the hood scoop... lol... but there are none to be found anywhere near us.

We opted for this loaded up SR5 with 56k on it.... and now I decided to look a little further into the details. I discovered by accident that it has back up sensors and rear view camera. +

I've read about electric lockers on some models but not others... and coming from a GM background and having a posi under every truck I've owned... I was hoping to find a locker in this Toyota of ours. If not equipped with a factory locker... What aftermarket unit is recommended ?

Here's the buttons I have in the overhead console.

Thanks in advance !

SR5 has no rear locker from the factory you can go with either a ARB or TJM if you want one.

dude you don't even have a posi in the rear. you're staight up open diff.

only version of the 4Runner that has a locking diff is the Trail or the TuRD Pro cosmetic package

The trd pro is not a cosmetic package. Your negativity and probable jealousy is getting real old.... And i havent been here that long.

Well either way I'd like to put a locker in it and probably go to a bigger 285 tire if it will fit without rubbing. I don't mind putting spacers under the springs if needed, but don't want to get involved with a lift kit.
This is primarily the GF's daily driver. I have a company vehicle provided so I will only be in this thing on the weekends. lol

Well considering i dont have a trd pro and my sig says as much i think you must be mistaken.

i in fact was, please accept my apology for dogging on a cosmetic package that i thought you had. you have a very lovely 4Runner that wasn't overpriced and didn't come with a flat billed hat and an affliction T-shirt

i assume your GF likes the way it drives and handles, as such a set of coil spacers to retain the current suspension performance would be ideal, as well as doing your best to find a set of 285/70's in the lowest load rating you can (C is what you should shoot for)

otherwise if you want to turn it into the truck it was meant to be we can happily spend your money for you in a heart beat

It does feel a bit mushy in my opinion and I was thinking it might benefit from a stiffer LT tire. Biggest problem will be convincing her to get rid of the 265's on it now. The dealer we bought it from had just put 4 brand new Goodyear Wranglers on it.

I also read all 12 pages of your build and was happy to see it was being saved after the wreck. :clap2:

Ours looks alot like yours did when you bought it.

Do some more research. It has a system called A-Track. It uses the speed sensors and the ABS system to keep power going to all wheels. It will only go into this mode in 4Lo. It is not as good as a mechanical locker in many situations, but way better than being fully open front and rear. It works surprisingly well (actually better than lockers in a few situations). It will take you a long way. You are better off spending your money on gaining clearance and traction with tires...

it would also be good to point out wfo9 that 2 foot driving is needed to optimize the use of ATRAC

ARFCOMer?

You probably don't need a locker, ATRAC works very well. I'd take ATRAC over a G80 any day.

I would put some 265/70/17 Duratracs on it.

Daww, that's cute.

I didn't find a flat billed hat or a affliction shirt in my 4runner...:bored:

Yep. Been on Arfcom since 2001 :50cal:

Would be nice if ATRAC also worked in 2wd and 4H
2002 here (Jeremy223 over there)

With decent tires, I doubt you'll really need it much. Compared to a pickup, the 4runner has a good bit of weight on the rear axle and much better traction. I have selectable front/rear lockers and spend most of my spare time off road, looking for trouble, and rarely use them. I think many times I use them, ATRAC would have worked too, albeit with more wheel spin

The G80 was a very poorly thought out alternative. Give me garden variety Positraction any Day. Or, preferably, an e-locker.
