How good is your 4th gen heater?

We've had some single-digit temps here lately and I had to turn my heat DOWN because it was way too hot in the "HI" position.

My heater will toast me at full blast.

Contrary to what others have said, my 4Runner reaches the normal full operating temperature regardless of the outside temperature. Maybe that's why some of you aren't getting good heat??

Here in Louisiana, many of our winter days have been in the 70s, maybe sometimes in the 30s in the morning...the 4R heater has blown me out with heat, a minute or so on high, and I'm cranking it down to LO

The heater in my 03 kicks butt. Last night we had an freezing rain and in the morning I had like 1/4" of ice on my windshield and it was -14 out and I fired the truck up and put the defroster on high and about 10-15min later the ice was GONE !! I was amazed . Best heater I've ever had in any veichle hands down. If you guys are having trouble with yours take it in cause their is something way wrong. Even at -36 last week I kept it on auto and the fan was maybe on low or medium all day not high and it was toasty warm inside.

Mine heats up well and I have never put it off auto. I leave the temp at 67 because anything higher burns me up. It takes about 2.5 miles or 5 minutes to start working hard but I have a 1+ hour drive to and from work each day and by the time I travel 10 miles, it's blowing cooler air because the interior is too warm. It's been in the single digits here for almost two weeks!

No problems here. Had it well below -22F for five ours a week ago. Windows did not fog and I was toasty. I did have to reset the thermostat from 72F to 65F however--I was getting a little sleepy.

The one mistake I made was not having dual climate controls. My wife is always cold and I am always hot. So therefore the only problem I have with the heater … is my wife.

Been down to about 5 degrees here this winter and no complaints. Within about 10 miles or so it's nice and toasty.

It was doing great until recently - seems to have developed a habit of blowing cold air when it should not - its at the dealers right now for some attention...

The one mistake I made was not having dual climate controls. My wife is always cold and I am always hot. So therefore the only problem I have with the heater … is my wife.

That's funny.

In regards to the heater... it will blow out warm air once the engine temp is warm enough to do so. In order vehicles without climate control... the vehicle will keep blowing out air whether its cold/hot.

ANother thing that would affect it is the outside temperature. If its relatively warm outside.. putting the heat up won't cause the fans to blow hot air inside the cabin. Happens on my friends Acura too, so it would most likely be normal.

If in doubt.. let the dealership know that you are having troubles with the heater. It will be under warranty and if it is broken.... you'll get it fixed for free. Keyword: free. (I like free stuff)
