How many cats on a 04 V6 T4R.

I want to replace my catalytic converter, or converters on my 04 sport. I was looking at the exhaust and it looks like there is one after wye. But in searching for one I have found some sights That say there is one on each side. I thought those were resinators not cats. Does any one know how many I have. I am tired of the smell and was just going to install a high flow one. Thanks for any info.

The V6 used in the 4th Gen has always had two cats, one on each side.

The V8 went from one to two in 2005.

I believe the two immediately after the exhaust manafold are the cats. On the driver's side, if you look through the wheel well near the door side, it's right by the frame rail. Not sure if there are two more, haven't gone underneath it in a while, but there appears to be another one right by the transfer case underneath the driver's floor pan.

A member here, can't recall his name right now, went with JBA headers which eliminated two of the cats after the manafold.

4Runner has two cats for each bank; a pre-cat on the downpipes and a cat for each side on the y-pipe.

Ok I am little confused now. I have seen the one big cat under the drivers side. I thought all cats were welded in SS. Does the stink come from the pre cats or the main. If I put headers on it I would need a tune due to the loss of back pressure, at least on all of LS1's I did. I guess I will replace the big one first and post up my results. If still stinks then I will move onto the headers. Thanks guys.

My 05 V-6 sport came with 4 total / 2 per side

When I installed the off-road Y pipe I lost 2

toyota will replace them for free if the stink is the problem.. i believe the TSB still applies, but I dont have a copy of it handy.

i'm confused. I own an '03 Limited V8. When i crawled underneath it, i thougt i saw from the front was a catalytic converter, then a long big muffler, and at the end was a resonator then the tailpipe. But half of that is gone because i NOW have a catalytic converter, then a Dual Flowmaster Exhaust System.

I am going to call the dealer today to find out which cat they replace. I do not think the TSB will cover a 04 with 71k. I would also like something a little less restictive. I also worried that one may be cloged. I know the tacomas have the same engine as my T4R sport. Mine is slow as hell. My brother can out me in his Ridgeline, BAD. I am changing the plugs on it this weekend as well. My wife thinks I am crazy and the T4R is fine, because I have been driving My Trans Am alot recently ( The TA has 406 RWHP) and just got use to driving fast.
How quick are you guys T4R 6 bangers.

The cat is an Emissions part, so they could still do the TSB for free under the Emissions warranty, which is 80,000 miles.

I dont believe you can replace cats with a non manufacturer part. Emissions.

Get the TSB done. Then you've got brand new cats.

Well if you're going the aftermarket exhaust route, there's no reason why you can't get an aftermarket cat like a Carsound or Magnaflow for example. They'll flow more and do the job just the same.

Do these systems incorporate the O2 sensors?
