How many CVs have you broken?

I'm curious to know how other people are doing with CVs. I'll update this post from time to time to help keep a tally.

If you can please specify what brand the axle was that broke.

Broken CV axles:
GlenYoshida - 10 (1 Toyota 2nd gen inner stub at differential, 2 Cardone one outer and one inner joint, 2 Mastercraft outer joints, 2 CVJ both broke axles on the outer axle shaft, 3 Toyota 3rd gen all outer cages)
Sn0wrunner - 9

Ric - 2 the 2nd axle was a Toyota outer joint break.

How difficult are they to replace? on the trail and off? special tools?

I am about to put on new long travel boots to stop the leaking, and wonder if there are any stronger, aftermarket CV axles that could be put on to lessen the likelyhood of them breaking. This way I could keep the factory ones as spares.

I have never replaced one on the trail but I assume it would be kinda rough. I can do it the driveway with an impact gun in under an hour, but I would prob. think double that time on the trail.

As far as tools you would prob. just need a 35mm socket and a prybar, I think that a tourqe wrench would be nice since there is a pretty specific requirement of 173 ft. lbs (I think). Have some extra diff. fluid because you will loose some when you remove the axle.

Bummer, I was just there wheeling a couple weeks ago with the Hoosier Cruiser's from mud. Wheeled hard and didn't bust anything, dents and scratches but nothing major. Let me know if you decide to head back and maybe I will shoot down there.

I'm an intermediate trail runner at best but I'm still on my original CVs at just over 150k miles so myu number still is 0.

O tears, no breakage. 224000. I off road HARD. Mud, sand, rivers, rocks, jumps, 13000 ft mountains, you name it. I listen very carefully to my truck. If I hear a distinctive pop from the front, I back off and choose a new line. In 15 years of mechanicing, I've only had to change a handful of Toyota cv shafts, mostly in older Corollas.

0, though at 150k on my 02 they are starting to moan and groan... and most people i wheel with say i abuse my truck, but then again, im running minimal lift to work with the 33's though after tomorrow i will be at 2!

4 Boots 0 CV's but have only had the truck a year. Replacing my half shafts this time and will keep the old ones for spares and put new boots on the spares.

Wow and its an outer, normally I have only torn the inners. Although it does look like the Inner is leaking a little. Just so darn messy I hate the clean up.
