How many mile were on the odometer when you picked up your new 4R

Mine was fresh off the semi and it had 1 mile on it! :)

The one I ordered had 1 mi on it. It went from the semi to the dealership garage for cleaning and preping then to my garage.

Not a 5th, but same thing on my '06. It only went to detail and gas station for a full tank of gas when I took delivery. I thought it was nice with 2 miles on my Tacoma. Both vehicles were ordered.

I am going test driving this weekend. Assuming I am getting one off the lot as opposed to a custom order, what is the range of miles you would expect to see on one before you'd say, "hey... that's a lot of miles for a 'brand new' vehicle?" (May seem like a silly question, but this will be my first new vehicle purchase so I'm inexperienced.)

I am assuming many of you had custom orders (??) which explains why 95% of responses so far have been 10 miles or less...! Thanks!

I've heard under 25 miles is still considered "brand new". But that number will vary greatly. Past vehicles we had that were traded had between 60-110 miles by the time we took delivery. Others that were off the lot were about 7-15 miles.

Yup. I took delivery with 62 miles on the odo. The vehicle was on the truck to a dealer in a nearby town when I made the deal for the options I wanted. The dealer had to swap the Magnetic Grey that they had on the lot for my black & tan. I should have specified that I wanted the 4Runner trucked to my dealer, but didn't do so. It is 62 miles between the dealers.

I'm assuming I would still be paying the same price as if it had 7 miles on it? Thanks!

That's correct. I am leary of demo models, but miles driven from one dealership to another are ok with me. Just make sure you don't have a 17 year old kid driving it over:zoom:

...So if I really want one soon, then I may have to deal w/ that amount of mileage on the truck.....

What I was eluding to in my previous post is that you might be able to negotiate the method as to delivery as part of the purchase if your dealer has to get your 4Runner from another dealer. See if your dealer will agree to have a car loader truck your vehicle back to the showroom. This is usually easier to do the farther away the dealer. It's worth a shot, if the mileage bothers you otherwise.

Dealers will do this, but the cost of this is charged to the vehicle. So in a way you are paying for this. If the dealer will throw it in, then you probably could have negotiated a lower price.

My thoughts are if it's your first new car, or haven't had a car with 4-7 miles on it before, then do it. It is kinda cool knowing you are the first to drive a car off the lot. If you have had many new cars and could care less about that feeling, then save the money to transport, have someone drive it over and go out for a nice steak dinner to celebrate!

mine had about 70 on it when I picked mine up, but they drove it up from nashville, because they had to dealer trade. my tacoma had 19 miles on it.

Thanks. I called the a dealer the other day who has a black Limited, but it has the sand/beige interior. He said there are 2 black/black Limited models within 200 miles that he can dealer trade. So if I really want one soon, then I may have to deal w/ that amount of mileage on the truck. I'm assuming I would still be paying the same price as if it had 7 miles on it? Thanks!

My experience with trades was I didn't pay more for them. But it can cost the dealer and it can a "deal". When I was shopping for a '04 RX330 when it was hot, one of the dealers said what I wanted was rare in terms of color and options. If they had to trade for it, they would have to give up a higher end package of another model to get it. (What probably happens is your dealer might give up a Camry XLE V6 for a Camry LE to get your specific 4Runner while they're sending one of their 4Runner Limiteds too.) They wouldn't be willing to negotiate on the price for the RX with the features I wanted.
