How much below or over invoice did you pay? Did you pay the TDA on your 5th gen T4R?

If you are a CostCo member (Sam's Club probably has a similar deal), you can buy it through them and get the 4runner for $1000 over invoice. Not a drop dead deal, but that made it about $2000 less than MSRP.

Try this one on...$1800 over invoice and they will not budge from their posted price which is about a grand less than MSRP on a 5th gen LTD! They claim it's their no-hassle pricing scheme. Their motto: "The Northwest's Only No-Bull Dealer".

What is the invoice Price ?. I lot of people think they paid under the invoice price but I can't figure how the dealer manage to stay in business if they keep losing money.

TDA has been around for atleast 10 years on any new toyota. I have the invoice on my 2000 corolla and it was on that. You will have a hard time getting dealer to budge from that. Either they pay or you pay

Not true. I have never seen this in SoCal. Might be a regional thing.

I have seen one Toyota Dealer trying to charge a $2K "Added Dealer Markup" on every new Toyota on the lot.

Costco in Utah is $700 over invoice for SR5 and LTD and $300 for the TE. But invoice price can be negotiated, so Costco is good for getting them down near invoice in quick order, then push for the rest to get to invoice or better as some have apparently done.

Yes, I figure they have to make money one way or the other, just like they hand you

the money with their right hand then steal it back with theirs left.

when I shopped for my truck i walked away from 6 dealer because of those BS

Charges

TDA, Hold Back etc...etc. They told me if i want to buy from from them have to pay

those charges, now the charge amount maybe vary from one dealer to another and one of the sale person told me if they subtract some of the amount from those charges, they have to make it up some else where, he meant like a balloon if you pinch on one end it will be deployed on the other end.

Uh, not getting your point. Where do dealers steal it back with their left when I buy a car? I get a better vehicle price than 99% of people who buy, I don't pay for $300 pinstripe or any other add on, I don't add gap insurance, warranty or anything else in the finance office and I get an ultra-low APR from a bank.

It does not even out every time as you lay it out. I pay much less than most people and they still make money on me, just much less than when most others buy.

I guess you are a better bargainer than most of us here. :trophy:

What is it with the car buying services lately. The 2011 Trail is consistently under-priced (I expect they used the base SR5 invoice) on USAA, ConsumerReports, Costco, and Overstock's websites. I think most use the Zag service and the error started there.

I'm still trying to secure their quoted $32,960 from a few dealers =b

I paid $38.9k, in cash, for my TE with KDSS, Nav, and remote start. I don't include things the the Convenience Package or the sliding tray because the TEs came with it as did the 2 year maintenance.

Did I get the best deal possible? Probably not, but I also had to put in a preference request to get what I wanted, so I had little negotiating power other than playing dealers off one another. In the end I got what I wanted for $2500 less than I thought I would have to pay; had they countered with $40k I would have taken it and smiled.

I'm only bringing this up because under no circumstances should you pay more than that for a TE equipped like mine, even if they have to send the order to Japan.

I want to know what the realistic price in my area of Northern NJ for the Trail w/ KDSS. There are like 2 of 10 dealers in a 30 mile radius that have a couple 2010 Trails remaining. I have a feeling that Toyota is going to make the 2011 Trail with KDSS somewhat 'hard to get', which the dealers know and use as their bargaining chip.

$500 under invoice and no TDA....Just Tax and tags + the usual $400 stealer fees...

Did you finance or trade in? $500 under invoice before or after holdback is removed?

Model : MSRP : Dest : Invoice with Holdback* : Invoice minus Holdback**
4x2 V6 SR5 : $29175 : $810 : $26548 : $25751
4x4 V6 SR5 : $30915 : $810 : $28132 : $27228
4x4 V6 TE : $35700 : $810 : $32487 : $31512
4x2 V6 Limited : $37765 : $810 : $34365 : $33334
4x4 V6 Limited : $39800 : $810 : $36218 : $35131

Invoice for packages and individual options is generally 20% lower than MSRP. If it is an extra value package (found on Highlander, Tacoma, etc), it is 10% lower. As far as I know, the 4Runner has no EVPs. Floormats and other dealer or port installed accessories are all over the place, though. I think Edmunds has true invoice versus MSRP for those.

TDA is usually between $400 and $600, depending on location, model, etc.

* This is the "invoice" price shown on cars.com and such. There is 3% built in operating costs in this invoice price. Basically allows the dealer to carry some sort of inventory and showroom. Essentially break even money. It gives them wiggle room to negotiate and get long-sitting models off the lot.
** This is the actual price that the dealer pays the manufacturer for the vehicle. If you get it for under this number on a 4Runner, the dealer is getting some hush money to move metal and you're quite the negotiator.

Cash deal, no trade. Dealer showed me invoice which matched edmunds and we went from there. No holdback. Of course I had to drive to Clearwater to get it but they were the only ones in Central Florida that would deal fairly.

So, was invoice $28XXX or $27XXX on your 4WD SR5?

I'm being a stickler/jerk about it because too often people come in quoting some amazing number that people can't reasonably expect to get.

My employee discount was invoice, $28132, minus holdback (~$900) on my 4WD SR5 but I still had to pay TDA (~$400). So, ~$27,600 for the base truck before destination and options.

27k + options...camera,rear slider,paint,etc....29k and change. I don't have the paper work in front of me since I bought it back in Jan, but I know it was under 30k+tax+tags+stealer fee $400 to wash it...

2011 Toyota 4Runner 4WD Limited

I purchased my second 4runner today at a dealer in Memphis, TN and was able to get a 2011 4WD Limited with navigation/backup camera, premium carpet/floor mats, Third Row Seating, Running Boards, (MSRP $44,346) financed through my own bank for $39800 Plus Doc Fees. Felt like I got a pretty decent deal on it so I wanted to share the info and hope that it might help anyone else who is shopping around!

Did someone say revive this thread?

Anyway, I'm looking at a 2012 4runner on a local dealer lot. Is there there any reason to believe the numbers listed above have changed drastically?

I visited the local dealer and he quoted me a price of around $36,500 (before TTL). It's a 2012 TE with KDSS and Navigation. That price seemed decent until I read the quoted post.

There seems to be a lot of knowledge on this site and I was just wondering what you guys thought.

Thanks

Thats seems a good quote to me.

Not sure where you are in NC, but Rock Hill, SC Toyota has a lot full with over 12 5th Gen 4runner's on it. It might be worth a call for a quote comparison. I know that's not your question, but I'm just saying if your looking around for the best quote if might be worth a try. Good luck and keep us posted with what you find!
