Anyone had a decrease in mpg after TRD CAI installation, before installation i had 18.4mpg ,after installation it reads 13.8mpg. Is this normal or ill have to wait till it settle after couple full tanks?

Double, triple check everything to make sure all is connected properly.

Its jumped to 15.2mpg now

It will not come with 15" of wire loom....cheap at auto parts store!
It will not come with 20" of 5/32 or 1/8" vacuum hose, also cheap at auto parts store!
It will not come with zip ties...IIRC, also cheap at auto parts store!
As described in this thread, a little O2 safe Silicone, and a small plug to seal a hole on the side of the air box and to seal a hole next to a mounting grommet on bottom of air box.
Silicone spray to facilitate inserting the tube into the couplers and you have just saved yourself $150.00

Also, for the small plugs, are you saying I need 2? What size?

Yes. I installed the kit yesterday on my new 2016 and the engine immediately shut off on the first start attempt.

Any silicone spray will work.

Installed mine as well yestetday, mine didnt shut off on the first attempt but my mpg changed from 18.4mpg then it dropped down to 13.8mpg, drove it for couple miles and now its reading 15.0mpg, did you have this issue?

I've sort of been curious as to what impact the CAI would have in conjunction with my Safari Snorkel, but from playing with the CAI parts, it's less sealed than the stock airbox, so it sorta defeats the purpose of the snorkel, and wouldn't actually add any HP gain.

Just bought all the parts for the intake as well. Anything to increase power on this truck is a welcome addition.

Also I didn't see anyone say they installed this on a 2016. I assume all of this fits the same?

Just installed the CAI yesterday on my ’16 and had no fitment issues with any of the parts.

The only details I found that were different from the original posted instructions and those supplied with the kit involved the wiring routing. I used the tie straps a little differently and relocated the plastic clip that attaches the wire loom to the bottom of the air filter box. Only moved it about an inch to get the loom to lay nicely.

Apologies if this technique has been documented elsewhere in this massive thread but I was able to install the intake tube between the filter box and throttle body really easily.

• Unlatch and lift the air filter box lid keeping the hinges engaged.
• Place the intake tube between the lid coupler and throttle body (prepping the parts with silicone spray, of course).
• Lower the lid and the intake tube will easily slide into place.

It took all of thirty seconds to do this and rotate the tube into the proper position.

Same here drove only 10miles after install, but im heading out to work which is about 20 miles away and see what happens. Keep you posted.

I went with the vacuum hose that matched the OEM size hose more closely, so it's what you can find at the parts store in those sizes....


A little O2 safe silicone to seal a hole next to a mounting grommet on bottom of air box & 1 Plug using silicone to seal a hole on the side of the air box.
Whatever size fits the hole.....I can't remember the actual size.

So far drove into work 20miles away, the mpg increased to 16.8mpg but ill keep monitoring it for couple more days see if it goes up anymore.

Yes. Seems the computer just needs to learn "it". I dropped from 18.2 to 13.1, was pissed. BUT took my TRD 4Runner almost 5K from original purchase to get to where my LE had been.
So I told myself will give 1 month if no improvement from 13.1 it was gonzo. All worked out, mow back to the 18 arena.

Drove 40miles and now its in the 17.4mpg range. Guess the ECU needs to learn the CAI.

Kinda strange, I have an UltraGauge and I never saw mine do what you have described.

Nevertheless, I'm glad it is coming back in line with your previous mileage!
