You can definitely hear a whistle, it almost sounds like an STI turbo but not as loud. I also have mine hooked with the Magnaflow exhaust (which I installed before) so it's getting a bit more throaty from that. It is more of a "Whisp" than a whistle. It's very subtle. But after dropping in the intake, the sound is much deeper with the Magnaflow. But, not as deep as a pair of Flowmasters would be.

All in all, I think the TRD intake is an awesome addition. Also, since the pictures are not pulling from photo bucket in the first post, here is our full step by step install (TRD Intake Install 4Runner). Also the Magnaflow install: Magnaflow Install 5th Gen Runner

for those with the whistle, are you running the stock filter or the TRD filter? I'm running the stock filter and hear no whistle...

The TRD one has the steel mesh like a K&N I believe, which could cause the whistle.

I apologize for the delayed response. Yes it worked. I had everything except for the filter plug meter. Which I just capped off with a standard black plug.

Does anybody have actual part number for the whole unit? My local dealer cant seem to find it and asked for a part number. I have a 16 Limited, is it one part number fits all or are they by the models? Whats the cheapest place to buy it if the dealer cant find it? Thanks

Does anybody have actual part number for the whole unit? My local dealer cant seem to find it and asked for a part number. I have a 16 Limited, is it one part number fits all or are they by the models? Whats the cheapest place to buy it if the dealer cant find it? Thanks

The Toyota parts system only lists the CAI as applicable to 2010-2012 FJ Cruisers and 4Runners, but everyone on this thread will tell you, except for a slight difference in wire routing/anchoring methods, it fits 2013-2017 4Runners just fine.

If you swim back upstream 10 or 15 post pages, you will find that ordering the separate parts from a good discount on-line Toyota Parts department can save you a substantial amount of money, as well as give you the option of using a stock filter or some other aftermarket filter instead of the oiled TRD one (I'm planning on getting a dry afe filter at some point). I got my parts from Camelback Toyota (inc. free shipping).

Installation was done today.

Couple of things:
- Buy the separate, piece-milled kit. Not the complete $400+ kit. I got mine shipped, cheap from Camelback Toyota parts.

- The plug referenced at lowes (post #286) has changed (the same part number, but the plug is actually different, and only two tabs, instead of the multi-ribbed piece. I found that this part was the closest, new equivalent.
----881193. It's in the same part drawer as 881204, but looks like the picture shown on #286.

Take your time, especially on the loom-splitting part ("OCD" kicked in)

I'd say "here's my pics" but it looks the same as everything else.

I just bought all the parts from Camelback and need to run to the store to buy some vacuum tube, split loom, plug, and silicone spray.

A few questions:

What about the M4 X 8mm long bolt (item 22 in the instructions)? Did you guys use that bolt? I don't recall anyone talking about that in this thread.

The instructions (and OP's post) call for the kit to be supplied with M4 allen head screws for the MAF sensor. I don't see any of those.

Are there any other screws/hardware I need to purchase before doing this install?

They are screwed into the black tube. The fitting where the MAF goes. It should have two silver screws in it.

Sorry I missed the bus here. I have already installed one on my 12' Limited and like it a lot. I did a lot of research when looking to buy one, but I never noticed if they were put in the TRD Pro from the factory and I see that you have a PRO. Does this NOT include the CAI?

Nope, does not include the CAI.

Not aware of any other bolt. Look at your parts. Do you see it? If no, look at the video. Do you see him remove it? If so, then it is a 're-use' part. If not, don't know what to tell you. Can't imagine what it would be.

It was a part listed in the parts list of the full intak kit that did not come with mine when I purchased piecemeal. I did not notice it in the video, so maybe it's nothing. I'll give it a shot without it and see what I find.

I just realized I have teh wrong one. Bought some used parts on eBay and this coupler is same OD as the tube itself. Not sure what it fits. Also the air inlet holes are not correct.

I just need a number for that one part but can't seem to find a diagram. In the TRD instructions pdf I found, it's simply named Part #5.

Nope, does not include the CAI.

though i've been aware of it since day one, this fact remains bananas to me.

people are paying more than MSRP for a TRD Pro, and yet Toyota actually has the stones to omit one of the few TRD parts available. it reeks in my opinion, but it's another smart way for Toyota to use TRD to pad its P&L, i suppose.

Installed mine tonight with the help from this thread. Piece of cake. I appreciate all before me who have contributed and happy I saved the money by parting it out instead of buying the kit. Definitely not as loud as I expected it to be from what some were saying about it. You notice a difference, but it's not dramatic by any means and in the lower RPMs it is almost like there is no change whatsoever.
