Well, if it makes you feel any better I can tell you that you're not the only on that has driven into a chain like that.
I'm not saying it's OK to do it, but I did that with my sisters VW Jetta. I left a parking lot of a bowling alley at 2am, closing time, but forgot my jacket. Went back and didn't even know what hit me when I saw the chain on the windshield. It wasn't hanging there 5 minutes ago. The "good" think about the Jetta is that it was low enough to where the chain scraped up some hood but I stopped just in time for it to BARELY touch the windshield. I never broke the chain and it never did anything to the windshield. That was some 5 years ago. I had the scratches on the hood detailed and most are not visible on the silver colored Jetta. My sister reminds me of it sometimes, it
