I am no hard core 4X4'er. I use my T4R to hunt, I use it to get into the bush and bring my game out.

Yesterday I came up behind a highly equiped Nissan 4x4, very nice looking truck with a mucho number plate, and the car was spotless, it had never been off road, ever.

I know maybe the guy had the $ to spend and was getting ready for an expidition into the boonies. Maybe not.

I hope my rant does not offend anyone

I just wish we would get real and use the darn things!

Silly Jeep owners, I always seem to crack up when I see a "trail rated" sign on the side of something like the new Jeep Liberty, who gets last place in Car and Driver comparisons

Believe it or not, there are people who drive their SUVs off road AND like to detail them afterwards. To say the guy NEVER had his vehicle offroad is a stretch, unless you know him personally.

I can show you pictures of my 4Runner dirty as hell from driving offroad through mud, snow, slush, road salt, etc... and then pictures afterwards where it looks like it did the day it came off the showroom floor. I detail the hell out of it, including the underbody, frame, wheel wells, and even the resonator and tailpipe. If you were looking at my 4Runner right now, you'd think it has never seen so much as a gravel road....but you'd be completely wrong.

Anyway, the point is that you really shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.

What got my attention was the number plate, it was a very clever play on words (Im not going to say what it was - I dont want to offend the owner by doing so). The truck was so lifted that I could easily see the underbody and seriously it was in mint condition - which is a complete contradiction from the number plate. But all the same I take your point, and you have a good one.

The dealer raves about my detailing work when I bring it in for OLF , then they put it up on the rack and see the carnage underneath , pull out a cornstalk or 2 and we all laugh.

Kind of embarrased asking this question but better safe than sorry. I'm going snowboarding tomorrow, and I checked the weather report and it says "light snow" up until my expected ETA which changes to "snow", but with tomorrow being a holiday I don't know how traffic will be.

So my question is...will my rig be ok without chains? I do have 4WD, and I have Michellin Cross Terrains. My truck has around 40300-500mi (and I assume from the previous owner that he got those tires stock). I just used the penny and quarter check system, and checking the tire tread of the right-center tread, I have roughly 4/32 left. My first time driving in the snow, so I'm a bit worried... IF my car is G2G, any tips for snow driving?

And magnum, I got your pm late... but if you make it out to the meet next saturday, and are willing to go with a complete noob...then lets talk cause I would like to go off-roading sometime! Though my truck is completely stock.

I had Cross Terrains on my car before my Revo's. They were good, but only up to a point. After about 40,000 miles they really lost their gusto. I would seriously suggest using chains if you will be going on any snowy roads

Same way with you two guys. If you see my pics and videos over on the Off-Road forum I had mine out climbing a mountain and going through a river with barely 5K's on it. Next day people wouldn't believe that I did it, had to show them the evidence, because I had it shined back up and looking good after that trip.

I have a couple of sets of chains at my place in El Dorado Hills, if you dont have, you could stop by and I could let you have one of mine. I am working from home Monday, so will be here all day

frequently stuck in snow. I must have spent more than 2 hours digging yesterday trying to get it and a 4X pre runner out of the snow.

I know a guy with a CC F250 lifted to the hilt with big rims/tires , he never want to go explore any trails , probably thinks I'll run circles around him.

Last weekend, I saw this H2, probably with at least 6" lift if not more. That thing was blinged out, chrome shocks and all, and probably what looked like 24s or 26s. My friend who was with me at the time and doesn't know much about cars was like, what's the point of making it that high if the axles doesn't clear what you're trying get over. This coming from a girl just means OWNED.
