I love my 4Runner but...

Accept it for what it is, everything feels slow when I get off my liter bike. It's all relative, the 4runner isn't all bad you just really need to put your foot into it to make it go, I always forget how much mote travel the pedal has.

I completely agree, I came from a 4th gen sport that had the V8 thinking I would get better gas mileage, nope, and I sure miss the excelleration, but the NAV and push button start more than make up for it!

7.7 is fine for me, I bought this vehicle to last, comfort, durability, so I seldom floor it anyway, its my 10 year vehicle..

Muscle heads should just get the 2012 dodge SRT8 models, nothing else is going to make them happy unless they have close to 500 hp..

On a serious note those of us coming from Gen 4 V8 understand what the OP is talking about especially the lack of felt power starting out and up hills but after a while it does not feel so bad. Flipping the stick left helps a great deal. There are a few not too steep hills around here which remind me daily its not a V8.

That said, the pluses of the 5th Gen way out weigh the minuses.

At least Consumer Reports got the acceleration data right in that hatchet job they did on the SR5. They seem to want to rid the earth of body-on-frame SUVs, and are seemingly unaware that many drivers still live and work in rural areas, or choose to seek recreation off-pavement.

Haha, I have it on my photobucket for this reason. I can do more comparisons if people ask. Despite CR hating the 5th gen, they are a good source of performance, economy, and reliability data.

My acceleration seemed to get a bit better with some miles. Modern computer-controlled transmissions "learn" your driving style and adjust accordingly. Mine did seem like a slug at first, but my previous 2 trucks were a Tundra reg. cab with a 5.7 liter, and a Sport Trac V8- both damn powerful trucks.
