I'm in the market for a new set of tires for my 00 4Runner. I shouldn't be off-roading, or even getting my feet cold in the snow. Just around town, but I want something substantial. Any help?
They are definitely nice tires. I have them on my 4Runner now. I might also mention Michelin Cross Terrians. They are a bit more expensive than the LTX, but they give a great ride, very stable and excellent handling. They tend to not last as long as LTX's, but they are great for the street. I had a set, before the LTX's.p nut said:Just mostly around town driving? Then any all-season tire will do you just fine. Michelin's seem to last the longest. My friend's LTX A/T's lasted over 90k miles. They are a bit more expensive than other tires, though, but in the long run, it would be worth it.

These look great and aggressive (enough) and i actually am getting an additional 20-30 miles per tank in the last two months. I had 265/70/16's in the past and tried these to see if i'd gain any mpg's. I averaged 19.3 mpg prior and have been getting 19.8 mpg since putting these on. Hope that helps!
p nut said:Are you sure you're getting an actual 20-30 miles more per tank? Since your new tires are smaller than the stock ones, this means that your odo miles will show more than what was actually traveled. So figuring that your new tires are about 4% smaller than stock, it should net you that much more on MPG's. So your observed 19.8 MPG increase results in a 3% increase over the old MPG figure. So unless you recalibrated your odo or did the calcuations using GPS, I don't think you gained any MPG's. Not only that, you lost some ground clearance, too...
Sorry to rain on your parade.![]()

I wouldn't put anything else on my Runner

Note taken. I am correct, however, that the first number is tire width and doesn't affect odmeter performance. Heehee. Just killin' time guys, take no offense.

I'd much rather have the plushier ride of an all-season tire if I were never to go off-road. Not only that, all-seasons have superior wet traction than the K/O's, would last longer and will generally be cheaper.
thegreenmonster said:i knew i was going to get some heat for that. i do agree with you on the price factor. the BFG's aren't cheap. but you pay for what you get
As for the ride, i drive 50 miles a day to school on the highway and i have found that to ride quality and noise is comparable to the Dunlop all season's on my brother's 4runner. the treadwear on the BFG's is amazing. i currently have 45,000 miles on mine (which will need to be replaced in the summer) and Tire Rack has reports of people getting up to 100,000 miles on one set
but like i said, i think that the BFG's are the best ALL AROUND tire. that said, you may find something better for you specific needs
just my 2 cents
P.S. my brother just replaced the Dunlops with BFG's after driving my truck and his sees little to no dirt/snow
