I reckon it's time for a build thread

Does it swing out as well? It looks like it might but I couldn't see a hinge unless I'm blind. Looks nice so far.

I built a bumper similiar to that back in 06 for my old Bronco. I planned to make different attachments to fit in the extra receivers I put back there. One was going to be a large basket for carrying a cooler and the trash. I always hate taking trash off in an SUV...the stink lingers. BTW when you live out in the country you have to take your own trash in case anyone is wondering why I'm putting trash in my truck, LOL.

yeah I welded it on after I took the pic. I have to get a bolt to go through the hinge itself tomorrow.

Well I made some progress on the rear tire carrier, but Ive run into some structural problems and need some advice. I tried to design the hinge like a jeep hinge so that may be my problem... lol jk.

Here is the entire setup

The weak point of the carrier. I think I need to use thicker metal.

The hinge parts..

The whole set up.. You can see the square tubes on the bottom that slide into the bigger square tubes on the bumper.

Don't mind the welds. I am working with a 90 amp harbor freight welder and the wire feed portion absolutely sucks...

Anyone with some metal work experience any advice on how to strengthen the hinge point would be very apperciated!

Here are those pics I promised.. the bumper has had time to get dirty and it was half wet from the snow melting from this mornings dusting. Also picked up an IFS budbuilt skid for 175 bucks. I still don't know if I like the red although it does match my 231 calipers. Enjoy.

Full shot of everything.

Tucked everything up close.

Bolted it with 2 bolts into the frame. The main beam in between the frame is a 2 x 3" steel thats 1/4'' thick. I capped it on the end so I could bolt it to the frame. Then reinforced the frame with a 1/4" plate.

I still need to put a piece of flat steel on the back so the dog doesn't fall through the bars gettin into the cargo area.

I need to also put another bar from the side bars to the frame. Over all I am happy and haven't seen anything super wrong with it other than on the drivers side. the bars are angled up and touch the fender flare, which sucks but oh well..

I am still working on the tire carrier. I thought I had it done but the part that slide into the bumper itself was way to weak when it was swung out so I am having to redo it.. but it shouldn't be to long though, since the swing out portion was solid.

And here is a look with the new skid on.

After my last 4 wheeling expo I had to find either a replacement carpet or herculine the interior... So naturaly I herculined it.

I just got the first coat on tonight and Might have to wait till tomorrow in order to finish up. I don't like the way the ribs look in the sheet metal so I bought a 1/2" thick rubber mat to put on the flat spots and to help with noise and for some cushion. Ill post some more pics later.

got tired of my old blinkers so i found some led's at vatozone. They are a flexable strip of led's with 3m tape on the back. It probably wont stay on there for long so I'll have to find another way to attach them, but we will see if they stay. They are really bright but I don't like that they blink like there is a bulb out.. Not sure how to turn of the fast blinking with out using the factory bulbs.

Here is a short video.. it is a cell phone video so the quality is crappy but you get the jist of it.

So as some of you know I completely flooded my rig a while back and said screw it and herculined the interior. And I saw this as a prime opportunity to do a mod that I haven't seen yet and something I've been wanting to do for a while.

Started with a 1/2 piece of plywood and laid the back of the rear seats on the plywood and used it as a stencil to get the holes and size right. ANd cut it out.

Second, I cut out a piece of wire I had from an old dog cage to fit and attached some molle puches that I had and found some more at a local army surplus store. They are the most expensive piece to this puzzle.

After some paint and some drilled holes. I screwed it to the back of the seats.

And the finished product with my gear in it.

If your wondering I have the following in the bags and on the back of the seats.
-Jumper cables
-tire pug kit
-2 x gasket maker tubes
-misc tools
-duct tape
-electrical tape
-deckplate plug
-hatchet
-machette
-To many bungies lol
-couple rachet straps
-tow rope
-winch controller
-bundle of 550

I have a ton of room left in all the bags to put what ever else I want. They are only 20% full as of right now.
In the tan bag not attached to the seats, I'm going to keep the heavier stuff in the tan bag. It will mainly be my 4 wheeling bag. I'll only keep it in the truck when I wheel.
-20ft chain
-couple shackles

Just need to figure out what i want to do with all the liquids. all my extra fluids don't fit in the compartment.

Finally got around to finishing up my tire carrier today. Didn't need much just a few welds and then the latch welded on. I still need to paint it but I am extatic to have it done. Here are some close up shots on the carrier.

Here is the part that slides in the bumper. Nothing special, just a 2x2 inch piece of angle iron with some reinforcement.

My latch. Its a 1 inch bolt with a hole goin through it for a safety pin.

My hinge is a double Heim joint hinge.

Finished product

I also Herculined my flares and bumpers too with the left over herculiner.

Got my 9 wraps installed lastnight as well that I picked up from The Kid. It has the perfect stance now I think.

Put new blinkers on as well.

HAd a chance to flex out my new 9 wraps and couldn't pass it up.. It definately has more flex in the rear end now for sure.

Got my 285's stuffed in there pretty good. Think I can fit 35's? I see some room for more tire..... :D

CJ:

Yeah I was actually thinking about making extra attachments for random other stuff depending on the type of trip I'm giong on. One for fishing that has a spot for a cooler, poles, crab nets/pots. and one for a dirt bike maybe? Or atleast our pedal bikes... lol

And it does swing out, just had to rebuild the hinge with some heim joints.
Sorry for the late reply, not sure how I missed this.

Sold the runner today. After a long fight with wether to sell the truck or not I finally broke down and got rid of it. I'll be going to school for the next couple years and its going to be rediculously expensive since I am going into a pilot program. The VA will pay for alot of it but not all.. ONe day I'll be back in a 4runner.. If not I'll be back in a toyota for sure.

I'll be creeping around though to stay in touch with friends I've made on here. So I'll see yall around.

I wished .. They wanted like $35,000 for it. It was set up nice just needed the interior finished. Not worth 35k though.

Wow... you are working on a bumper one min and you sell it the next min... dang...

wow, that was a great build I was super jealous of how quick you were modding everything.

jared I didn't think you thought I was serious. Thats funny though. They wanted waaayyyy to much for it.

Duhockey: yeah I was trying tto get everything knocked out that I wanted to do the past 6 months. Needless to say I had no idea I would be selling it.
