I reckon it's time for a build thread

Thanks man.. its easy once you've done it a few times.... But couldn't have done it so quick with out a Wilson..

BTW I have a bunch of update I have to do this week. I'm about 90% done with the install of my dual batteries. Woot woot..

OK here is the much awaited post... After finally getting the runner running with the new engine in it I got around to doing some more mod's. I've wanted to do this for a very long time and finally got around to doing it.. You can see my national luna solenoid in the back on the fire wall where the wires route through.

Here is how I am wiring everything up with an additional fuse box in the cab of the truc ofcourse to run all my stuff off of. It is on the drivers side kicker panel. I think it should be out of the way there. I am going to route the wires through the manel to try and hide them as best as possible. So at the most they should have about 1/2 of an inch of wiring showing before it goes out of site. The red wires are from all the crap I currently have wired up and haven't plugged in yet.

I also replaced my upper and lower ball joints, CV's and outer tie rods on both sides. While I was at it I had to throw some paint on my 231's. For some reason they were getting some surface rust.

So... This means you drove it then, right?

How was it?!

Unfortunately no... I had to go to 3 different places to try and find a new nut for my outer tie rod and it ate up most of my wrenching time.. so I wasn't able to get my brakes bleed while Jose was here.. tomorrow it definatly will be driven

yeah as far as I could tell. I am going to return those other gaskets and get the correct ones though. Just to be sure. The old gaskets had already been crushed so I want to replace them. Just to have a warm and fuzzy.

No I did have a small wet spot from some anti freeze. Ill keep an eye on it and try and find the source.. I dont think its serious though at all.. It was very small.

That big jam nut is actually included when you purchase the inner TRE, which I thought was the dumbest thing I'd ever seen, considering that it threads on to the outer TRE. WTF, huh? It should be included w/the outers.

Yeah that is how I got a new one. We tried home depot, toyota dealership, and then auto zone. None of them had a nut to fit it and then I got curious about the inners and checked and sure enough.. It was in there. Thanks autozone for the $30 Nut....

So i found a good deal on aisin hubs and couldn't resist. I went the easy route and just swaped out the hub spindle, and knuckle assembly from the 4runner and to the tacoma assembly. I just left my abs sensor hanging there but just tucked it up out of the way. Thanks to singtoe and all the guys for their help on the aisin manual hub thread. Cuz I wouldn't have been able to do this mod. We will have to see how much it helps on power and maybe gas.

Just got my parts in to install my 4.30 e locker. Hoping it will be an easy install. But gears are the one thing i havent worked on and its kind of intimidating, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

After doing an engine swap, how hard can it be?

I think I can do it esp with all the write ups I have found but they don't cover any backlash stuff. And gears and transmissions are the only things I haven't worked on.

Well I got my new IFS Diff in the front with 4.30 and the new E-locker put under the truck. All I need to do is wire everything up. I actually picked up another e-locker for a killer deal and traded it off for another housing that I didn't have to cut and modify to fit the locker so I am happy about doing less work. lol

The write ups I am using are these ones:

Outdoor Recreation Network - Off-Highway, Jeep, & 4x4 Fun
Retrofit Electric Locker
4Runners.org - 3rd Gen 4Runner E-locker Retrofit
How to Remove Rear 3rd Member from Toyota Axle
Toyota Gear Installs

They all have a good bit of info but some more than others.

Speaking of wiring I finished up wiring my Auxillary fuse box. I placed it on my drivers side kick panel and couldn't be happier with the placement and how I ran the wires.

I found a 99 console for 40 bucks from a local 4runner part out and couldnt pass it up so I threw it in the runner. After using it for a bit, I can't believe I ever went without..

I picked up some cloth seats from A wilson to replace my old and worn out leather seats with. I think I'm going to like these waaaay better.

This is the latest and greatest photo I have of the rig. This is at ranier national park over the past weekend. The weather couldn't have been better.
More to come soon!

Looks good, bro. Did you go with the Blue Sea fuse box?? I need to clean up some wiring on my 87, but when I swap the 3.4, I'll be dropping the e fan and going back to mechanical so that should be sufficient cleaning it up. I've got power back on, so if you need a shop to work in, let me know.

Got some free time coming up and found a decent deal on some DOM tubing so I figured now was as good of a time as ever to start my rear bumper and sliders. I got almost 40 ft of DOM 1.5" x 120 tubing for about 130 and then a hitch reciever and 3/16th x 4" steel for gussets all for 160.

Here are some pictures I sketched up of what I am thinking. The rear tire carrier is going to be modular so I can take it off when I am not using it. The pictures are drawn on tracer paper so I can overlay it easy.

The 4runner rear end-ish

The rear bumper. Basically going to start off like dirtco started his with a 2"x3" 3/16 steel to link the frame rails. The difference is I am going to attach 3 different hitch recievers 1 in the middle and 1 on each side of the frame rails.

That way I can attach the tire carrier one side of the truck.

And here is how it will swing out. I will have to adjust it a little bit and see how it fits with a tire.

This is a very rough draft I drew up in like 5 min's and already see some problems but it will be close to this.

The biggest problem is the actual hitch I will use for the trailer hitch is covered by the tire carrier. I may be able to put a bend in it so it bends of it but I will more than likely just move it down.

What do you think? Any suggestions?
