Icon Suspension

So let me get this straight: You sold your highly modified 200-series, purchased a new 5th gen 4Runner Trail Edition, and are now putting the same ICON setup you had on the 200 on your 4Runner? What happened to "downsizing"???

Hi Marc :cowboy:

Ha Ha!!! You found me!

Hey Justin, how's it going? I was wondering when you'd show up on here.

Trust me, even though I am putting the Icon sus on, it's still a downsize. You've got one, you know it's smaller and sportier. Also, you ever get bored, want a new project? Let's call this a new project.

If Icon is a downsize, what would be an upsize?

By the way, Icon has a lifted 5th gen on their homepage now.

I meant downsize in vehicle and engine size...I had an Icon lifted 200 series Landcruiser and recently got rid of it. It didn't work with my current lifestyle since I moved to Toronto from Western Canada. The rig was a big pig and I am doing mostly city driving as opposed to mountain driving.

The Icon is just suspension...I'm hoping to just level the 5th gen and not lift it a whole bunch.

A wee bit of a teaser courtesy of Icon Vehicle Dynamics:

Let me say that although I haven't had a bunch of time with the new sus, it does ride 110% BETTER than stock. It is amazing!!! I've had Icon coilovers before in the front of my old rig, but having the whole set-up is worlds of difference over just front coilovers. I love the feel of buttery smooth suspension that is also firmer. This is the best and I would recommend it to anyone.

I'm thinking it is time for bigger tires (already). I may have a good deal on some Procomp extreme ATs in 305/65/17, which should compliment the lift nicely.

Very nice!! I can't wait til I get mine on tomorrow. These things are like a work of art with all the cnc'd parts! She's going up on jackstands and wheels off as soon as I get home from work tonight.

What rear springs and shocks did you go with? They look tall.

A 5th Gen really comes into it's own with a little lift and level. That's what tipped the scales for me buying one, a photoshopped picture of a lifted 2010 4Runner! Can't wait to get my own Icon set.

Beautiful ride! Taken it on trails yet with the new suspension?

To answer a few questions.

I drove it home from the shop and that is all, so unfortunately no time in the mud.

I got the stage 4 set up to give 3" front and 2" rear. This included all Icon parts:
coilovers
UCAs
remote resevoir rear shocks
rear springs
rear trailing arms

install took about 6 hrs in total. My buddy did it at his shop (I chopped of the tip of my index finger 6 days ago and have no driveway as you can see from the pics so I couldn't do it myself). The biggest beef was aligning it. I took to a 4 wheel alignment shop and the UCAs were all the way out. They kept getting aligned then dropping it and it was cambered all wrong. Finally we took it back and moved the UCAs all they way in...took it back and no problems.

The wheels I have are 275/70/17

I will bring the front up in the near future...there is tons of room to adjust it. It is pretty much stock rake right now, but looks good I think.

how does this suspension compare to the xreas on road. Would love to do this to mine, but I am primarily on road.

Very nice...:hatsoff:

Few questions for you:

1) Nice and smooth low speed and firms up at higher speeds?
2) Did you keep the KDSS intact?
3) How is the body roll? even less than before?
4) Any nose diving upon hard breaking?
4) You mention adjustable suspension height, how much can you adjust in front and back?

Again real nice looking rig you got there, I may just have to do some upgrading. :)

1. Stiffer at all speeds. Even a bit harsher on bumps at low speed. At higher speed though I is buttery smooth. A great compliment for anything over 45 mph.
2. KDSS is fully intact. This only changed the shocks, springs, struts and some control arms, the swaybar wasn't touched at all.
3. There was minimal body roll with KDSS and even less with this.
4. Nose dive is even less with this as well, but I think because it's a truck and so big and tall, there is still going to be nose dive.
5. The front coilovers are adjustable from stock height to 3" lift. The rears are not adjustable. I put in Icon's springs which gave me 2" of lift. If you wanted to, you could source other springs to give different lifts in the back.

I figured I would post this question in a thread all about the ICON suspension.

I know quite a few of you are running the ICON suspension, Those of you that have KDSS and opted to go with the Front Remote Reservoirs, Do you have any pics of where the reservoirs mount? I know exactly where they mount since I had them on my 2008 Tacoma, just want to see some pics, since the KDSS Swaybar housing sticks out about an inch or so from the frame well on the front driver side. Do we just bend the reservoir mounts out away from the frame, or what exactly?

I'm hoping to still get the Overland Kit, but I really want to lift it by the end of the month.

Thanks,
Nathan
