Those pictures should be titled as Redneck Engineering. Necessity is definitely the mother of all invention!

In one sense, free markets are the most democratic - even more than government - because everyone can vote with their money.
"Unfairly being taken advantage of" - you mean paying more taxes towards the ever increasingly bloated government?biglatka said:That's true only if our markets are totally free and competitive, but they're not. There are some areas that have to be government controlled for the good of society. You really cannot vote with your money when it comes to national security, fuel, education, public transportation. gas & electric, food, communications, health care, and housing. In the U.S. in many of these areas there really is no competition and they are monopolies or near monopolies. We cannot have a lazzaire-faire attitude in all cases. No man is an island. Even from a mercenary standpoint, if more than half the country is suffering because they're unfairly being taken advantage of than we all are suffering and will pay the price in the end.

Regarding "You really cannot vote with your money when it comes to national security, fuel, education, public transportation. gas & electric, food, communications, health care, and housing." We don't "vote" money effectively for many of these things because government has taken some control away from the free market - is that your point? [/B]
I don't see why food should be on that list at all. Yes, health care has been meddled with, and we have little ownership in controlling costs, because we are shielded from taking more ownership by most insurance plans (and dare I mentioned greedy lawyers too?). The choice in fuel/energy has been diminish somewhat due to a 30 year increasingly draconian environmental paradigm that is no longer realistic.[/B]
Housing, I doubt should be on that list at all. We have free choice there, don't we? (That's partly what allowed investors and the credit business to run the prices well above true market values. And although it's an unfortunate consequence to free markets, they normally work pretty doggone well!) [/B]
YEE HAW!!! :iagree: Thas jus' what we need - yeah, thas what I'm talkin' 'bout! They know much better how to spend our money than we do ourselves or locally!Jeff Kleb said:
Yeah, that's it. Make the feral government even larger & more powerful. Where the statists have messed things up, let's just give them more power and hope that "this time" they might get it right.
When their ideas fail, just throw more money at the problem and have Congress micro-manage every aspect of our lives.

But the best is yet to come. It ain't the Patriot Act that bothers me - it's controls and regulations on my behavior in the name of saving the planet and public healthcare that really worries me most! :bugeye:
