If you could have any app for your smartphone (T4R related), what would it be?

How were we mislead? My 2010 T4R has SOS.

Yes & No - I bought mine in Nov. 09', the brochure at the time said only the LTD (which you have, will have the SOS), but on-line they showed that the LTD and the SR5 would have it, but not the TE (no idea why). It showed up and even the dealer was a little confused why it did not have it. They figured the on-line content would be more accurate than the brochure printed very early. They kept showing for months and months that the SR5 would have the SOS system but they would show up at the dealerships without it.

When they 1st came out they seemed to have a lot of conflicting information between the website and their brochure. I still have mine that shows our 4R's have a 24g fuel tank, when it reality is a 23g tank (in their current version and on-line at least).

At one point Toyota even had SOS advertised on all 3 trim lines of the 4R, but now it is just back to the LE (all on-line). They can't seem to really make up their mind with it.

All that being said, I would have liked SOS in mine, but by no means am I disappointed with the 4R because it does not have it. Actually I found an article today that shows OnStar is going to be selling a stand alone mirror with all their services, only problem is I doubt it would include the back up camera display.

I think they finally have everything down with the 11's

The "Party Mode" App is my $1,000,000 dollar idea...just a big button that says party mode on your phone...when you press it, your music starts playing through the external speakers. :reddance:

I've been playing with my torque app for 2 days and its really great. I highly recommend it. Also you'll need a bluetooth obd2 adapter, got a plx from jeggs. Its a great set up with my droid x and car dock.

I thought all those current locator apps were only able to find your car in a parking lot based upon the last spot your car was.

How is it able to know where your 4Runner has been driven off too if it were stolen? Do you need to leave some kind of tracking device in the car?

GPS tracking...the whole remote start and lock/unlock etc features are capable because basically there is a cell unit integrated into the unit. I can see where my vehicle is within 10 feet or so as well as "geo-fencing". If you let someone else drive your vehicle but don't want them to drive in a certain area, it will alert you if the vehicle goes to that area. You can also have it tell you when it reaches a destination of your choice! So many features...*edit* it is limited to cell reception in both the vehicle and your smart phone *edit*

4runner inclinometer for droid. Kinda handy I guess, or atleast it looks cool. haha

I second this request (or third it). I would also ask for a Phone Camera-based inclinometer estimator so I do not get get over my head (too much incline).

I would also ask for an augmented reality view (so if it is snowing real hard, it can tell you if you are directionally correct to stay on the road.

There are lots of inclinometers for smart phones I even got one for WM6, but I didn't find what are the critical angles for 4R.

I'm an avionics software engineer working on something similar to augmented reality for aircraft. Problems with the augmented reality in a phone include a compass with limited accuracy, GPS not accurate enough, limited road data, road data not guaranteed to be correct, and phone camera with limited capabilities.

I wouldn't even think about developing an "app for that" due to the liability involved. The first time someone drove off the road in the snow and was injured the app developer will be sued. No, thanks.

Damn... all my good inventions come a little too late!

Seems like a nice thing to have, but maybe having the GPS work outside of cell phone range would be a nice improvement.

Tell me about it...2 years ago, I told a few people that I was going to invent a remote starter that you could control from your phone and everyone laughed at me...one maybe laughed all the way to the patent office :redbrick:
