If you have used NAPA cv axles please reply

The boot tore on my left side inner, I am looking at the NAPA brand to replace the leaking one then re boot it for a spare.

If you have used NAPA, please reply and let me know if they have held up well for you or not.

And if not what, where, and how did they fail.

Did you use the " NAPA new " or Remanufactured.

Its funny you posted this today, because this morning I bought two cv axels from NAPA. I got the OEM remanufactured, not the Max Drive line. Ive yet to install them. I might get one of them in tonight. maybe. They come with a 3 year or 36000 mile warrenty, so I figure if they dont break by then they should be fairly reliable

Running the NAPA brand new CV's. I have 6,000mi and 2 light wheeling trips on them. So far so good.

Just out of curiosity how much $$ did they run you? if you don't mind me asking, I'm looking to replace both sides of mine before I get a well needed alignment in the next few weeks but I'm worried about how much they'll run me.

$53 a piece with a $110 core charge on each. So once I turn mine in it will be $106. Not a bad price, but Im worried about the longevity of remanufactured parts. I just finished getting the first one in. It was kind of a pain. But the next one will go much faster.

My original boots tore almost a year to the day after putting in my lift. I put in Napa remans a few months ago. No problems yet. I bought the boot kits to reboot one of my originals. Haven't got around to it yet.

That's not too bad of a price. I was worried they would be some ridiculous price but that's affordable. Guess all you can do is try them and find out.

I went and got the Napa "NEW" axle yesterday after posting my question and installed it last night. I wanted to keep my original and re boot it for a spare.

THe Napa axle installed Ok and is driving good.

I hope some others reply also so that we can get an idea of how good ........or bad these axles are.

I've been running new Napa's for two years now. Though 3 weeks ago the driver side failed and I had to replace it. It was literally held together by the boot. I went to Autozone and they replaced it for free since it was still under warranty. If another fails though I am going to find aftermarket stronger ones because I don't need them to fail while I'm crawling.

I bought 2 Napa CV axles with a life-time replacement. They were 130ish a piece I think. Mine have held up well with no boot tears. I just broke one a few weeks ago on Hackett Gultch. I was trying to get up a rock with lots of loose dirt and gravel. Just as I was pulling up the obstacle it must have put a little more stress on the outer joint, and pop. That seems to be my recipe for breaking cv's thus far...

Anyway, the Napa CV axles seem to be pretty good. And you can't beat bringing in a broken axle and getting a brand new one right back. Good stuff

So Autozone honored NAPA's warranty? Did I read that right? How does that work exactly?

I haven't put napa cv's on my 4runner but I did get some for my blazer and they sucked. I went through a lot of cv's and napa's held up the least. I had the best luck with the more expensive ones from advance auto made by gsp

Wow , I didn't expect to hear that. I figured the NAPA ones were better.

its funny this thread came up... this past Wednesday the 4th, i was out wheeling with some friends and blew my first CV... so i had to get winched up the hill and that was the end of my wheeling day(was on the last trail i was gonna run anyways). anyhow i get home and call my father in-law, who as some of you know works for toyota as a senior tech. anyhow he told me not to buy a CV from toyota unless i had more $$$ then brains. because, napa buys the new(NOT re-mans) from the same manufacture that toyota uses. and in some cases they have gone to napa to buy CVs because they have them in stock, and its cheaper for them to buy from napa and re-sell at toyotas cost for the exact same thing -when they would have to wait several days to get one from the toyota distribution center.... anyhow yeah so tonight i just went though my shop and bought a brand new, not re-man, for $88 as upposed to the $326 i would pay from toyota for the identical item. so some food for thought

also napa will give you a limited lifetime warranty where as toyota will not, and will charge you 3x as much...

Wow , that's interesting. If you think about it would take some
specialized tooling to make these. So likely there are not many suppliers
who can, or will make them. I guess the thing is what kind of materials they use,
and also what tolerances they keep

Was your father-inlaw talking about the Maxdrive or Altrom cv's? The Altrom's look more like OEM in the pictures.

I think when it comes to any 'aftermarket' cv... They're all pretty much the damn same. I can break every single one of them on command by now.

Some of napa's stuff from altrom imports has the 555 stamp on it so I bet that's what the kids father in-law is talking about. I'm holding out for his response.
