I have a 2016 limited and I'm doing the diff breather mod. Is there a breather valve for the center diff? And where is it?

Sometimes just typing in something like 5th gen rear differential breather toyota4runner.org will help or different combinations in a search engine....

The center diff on the Limited is inside the transfer case. I believe that the transfer case breather is already remote mounted up on the firewall about the elevation of the air intake. Look behind the engine. If you're in water that deep, a little water in your transfer case isn't what should worry you.

The rear diff is located in an area that is easily submerged, but instead of routing a hose to a breather in the engine bay Toyota went cheap and installed a one-way breather. But that can cause its own issues, which is why people do the mod.

As for searching here, don't search here. Go to Google and search for "[search terms] 5th gen 4runner". About 90% of the answers will send you here, with maybe a few to some of the other 4Runner sites.

The transfer case, transfer case engagement and transmission breathers are centered behind the engine between the firewall and engine and above the transmission torque converter cover.

I took a picture but it is hard to see the details. There are two dark breathers which are the transfer case and actuator breather then there is a white topped breather for the transmission to the right. all three are next to each other.

Hope the explanation helps to find it. I tried to center the items in the frame.

I use my iPad and an app called tapatalk. It's not the best way to search. But neither is the search function on the website.
I used the threads I could find. But not many people seem to do this to the limited. I could be wrong.
Also this is gonna be my first truck I mod the hell out of and make mine completely. I'm also 40. I'm not a car guy and I've never done anything like this. So I'm learning. I'm sorry if I offended you, but not that much. If you don't like my questions, don't answer. No skin off my back and there shouldn't be any from yours. Life is too short.

I wanted to look into extending these to the ARB breather I have on top of the driver wheel-well. I have the rear-diff and e-locker going to the front and I extended the front-diff and actuator breather to the same.

Once I saw where these breathers were located I decided against trying to extend the transfer-case, actuator and transmission breather. I was flat on my back in the garage underneath with all skid plates removed. I could only fit one hand in there and had to fully extend my arm and push off my other shoulder to get to those breathers. Not to mention at that point I couldn't see so it would have to have been done by feel.

As long as you are moving forward it should keep water from stuffing the breathers where they are. Standing in water to the top of the tire may be a different story.

As much as we may love our 4Runners, they were not designed for 3' deep mud holes at the mall.:hatsoff:
