Intermittent Turn Signal Fail

Anyone have trouble with one of their front turn signals going out intermittently going out? In the couple months since I've owned this thing, every once in a while, the right blinker will blink really fast indicating a bulb out. Well, today it stayed that way until i got home and I found it to be the front right. So, i pulled it out and looked at it, but everything looked good. I put it back in and it fired right up. I even messed around with the wiring a little bit to see if there might be a short and could never get it to NOT work.

Maybe this is just a warning telling me it's about to fail. Are there any issues with the wiring on these?

Well, hopefully that's the case, just seemed weird. It would go a week or so with no issues, but now it's done it twice in the last two days.

This is the 3rd or 4th post I've seen about that front right turn signal. Mine also intermittently failed causing the fast blink, and also killed bulbs rather quickly. Look inside the actual socket and see if it looks unusually worn out around the pins -- mine did, so I replaced that socket (I think the new one was like $6) and it has been fine ever since.

Been there done that - you can either mess around trying to patch it up or just bite the bullet and replace the socket - they're not too expensive to replace in fact and it does seem to happen to a fair few people who always seem to end up doing just that.

Weird, I might have to do that. Heck I only have 20K miles and there isn't a bit of corrosion or anything on the car. Weird.

I think whoever put the OEM bulbs in our right front turn signal sockets was having a rough day at the factory -- mine was all chewed up like they tried to shove it in the wrong way a few times before putting it in correctly.

On mine it's the left front, replaced bulb and burnt out in about a week, replaced again and worked fine for a month and now it fails intermittently, will try replacing socket this weekend.

My '07 was doing that. would be the left side with the battery in the way. Socket was not locked down all the way. Still on original bulbs.

A light touch-up of the socket AND bulb contacts with a piece of emery cloth and a squirt of contact cleaner into the connector (immediately followed by wiping the contacts together a few times) should clear that up.

Cool, if it happens again, I'll do just that. Just seems weird, the thing is practically brand new. No big deal, just odd.

Hi I needed to bring this back up, where did you guys buy the new sockets? is it easy to install yourself?
My blinker was out and i bought a new bulb which lasted for a day then went out again. So im going to try cleaning the socket but, if that doesn't work i will try the new socket.

Defective ground connection = premature bulb failure. Failed bulb looks black/blue inside.

Defective connection is found in the socket mostly and then the downstream harness connector or local chassis ground.

Mine went crazy for a week, alternating sides. I finally got around to Contact Cleaner in the connectors/sockets. Passenger side was easy. Battery was in the way on the Driver's side, so I just did the connector. Fine so far. This was during sunny weather. Thanks Nuke.

Hey ran, what year runner do you have? I have an '05 had to replace my drivers side turn signal/DRL socket as it was fried and it took literally 5 seconds. Just got under the front bumper and pulled it out. I did it in the stealership parking lot after I got the part.

If the bulb doesn't fix the problem check the socket. Mine had a short and showed some black marks. Installed new socket with new bulb (I think it was like $9 w/tax from the dealer) and good as new.

2007 SE here. Just happened to have Contact Cleaner on my shelf. No-cost fix so far.

Right on the ball there, check the socket contacts and the grounds, usually the contacts become corroded and will cause excessive resistance that can prematurely kill the light bulb. You can use some emery cloth and electrical contact cleaner that you can pick up at an auto parts store or electronics store.

well, i have this same problem on the passenger side turn signal. FML, i tried taking the socket off so i could clean it with contact cleaner, tore the wiring. What can i do? i have a new socket being shipped in now as we speak

Well my '07 is doing it again. Contact Cleaner, no luck. Pulled the left isde socket and bulb, put back and it worked. Will just get new harness next time.

any part number for the socket, mine is off on my truck drivers side. searched on amazon..no dice
