Intruder's build and off road pics thread

Forgot to mention amongst all the excitement of a SAS 5th gen (you guys can yell at me when you come up here for some wheeling) that I also have the Icon Overland springs in there now. The rear is actually higher with those springs and the bumper than it was with the old springs from the OW 2.0 kit without the bumper.

We had about a foot of snow here today and with the bumper weight and new springs the drive home was a lot different. Gonna take a little getting used to in the snow.

I'm going to steal some snow tire and come up and... One of these days anyway...
 
Was out for a bit yesterday. It was a big group and I was at the back so more scenery pictures than wheeling ones. There's a lot less snow than usual for this time of year out on the trails. It made for some icy hill climbs and not a lot of recoveries. One long hill climb took people several tries (one also had a sidewall puncture on some rocks) and some had to be pulled up the last 50 feet or so. Locker on and appropriate use of the skinny pedal let me climb it on the first try though. Coming back down the hill people were sliding quite a bit because 1st gear was too fast and the brakes would lock up almost instantly. I decided to use one of the useless gimmicks and just went down with crawl control on. Barely slid and was able to keep control for the whole descent.

Bent the front skid on my bumper (again) and it popped the two heavy duty zip ties I had holding it to the skid plate. Those darned mild trails.

I organized a trail yesterday between our forum and one of the local Jeep forums with a pretty good turnout. We knew right away that the group was fairly large and we had wide mix of people and vehicles - first time wheelers to very experienced and stockers to heavily built. I suggested that it might be an idea to have some of the more heavily built vehicles with more experienced drivers go on ahead and I'd lead a second group with the more stock vehicles. I think we ended up having 5 or 6 drivers who had never been on the trail before. So the first group went on their way and I gave some quick pointers to the newer drivers. After answering some questions we were on our way. There wasn't a lot of snow out there, but there wasn't any mud or ice either and there was lots of traction. Everyone did really well and enjoyed themselves (or at least that's what they told me). I love seeing people who have never been out on the trail before realize what their vehicles are capable of doing even if they're still stock and out with a bunch of heavily built trucks. We made short work of Lost Knife so we decided to take a quick drive out to the first river crossing on the way to the falls. After that we headed back, aired up, and made our way home.

Tried something a little different today. Had a D750 with 24-70 f/2.8 and CP plus D800 with 16-35 f/4 and 6 stop ND filter. See if you can tell them apart ;)

Are you seriously short of snow fall up there?

There's less snow on the ground here, at the end of January, than April of the last 2 years.

Yeah, barely any snow compared to what we normally have at this time of year. To put it in perspective, it was something like +17C (63F) in Calgary today while normal range is between -14C and -2C.

Same here, 15-30 degrees (f) above what it was on any given day the last several years and no snow pack below 7K ft. Going to be a tough summer for those relying on the Colorado River.

That DCLB Taco looks like a F250 by your 4runner.

Resorviors were already full going into the winter with the crazy rainy summer we had last year so may not be that bad. But not good for all the skiing and boarding i was planning in feb!

Pictures are awesome intruder, dont know anything about all those camera settings, if i start with a charged battery its a success for me but i certainly enjoy your talent!
 
I couldn't take a picture like that if I had your camera and tripod and you pointed the camera for me. Great pictures fella.

So the girl I've been seeing for the past week asked me to take her on an adventure in the mountains on Saturday. I'm not sure she knows what she's getting herself into... :D
