So the girl I've been seeing for the past week asked me to take her on an adventure in the mountains on Saturday. I'm not sure she knows what she's getting herself into...

Hahaha, high of -12C and low of -21C on Saturday - and that's in the city, not out in the mountains. I think that plan would be more likely to get me killed. I don't think she realizes what kind of wheeling I do. She's only seen mud bogging, so it might be a bit of a surprise.

There's less snow on the ground here, at the end of January, than April of the last 2 years.

Yeah wow I thought the exact same thing! Seems like last years was burling through some deep pow pow and that wonderful red 80 getting stuck as f#$@ in snow banks


Yep we are super slim here too. Nice weather to be in, bad weather for drought.

But if you do it well.. you will have her doing yoga on top of the roof of your truck in no time! (right [MENTION=93894]J-BlickPhoto[/MENTION]!?!?!)

My wife didn't have the greatest first experiences and it's taking me 2 years to get her more comfortable again. The 4x4 driving course she took in our truck at the Overland Expo made a huge difference. She now has a much better understanding of what the truck can do which made her more comfortable. Also being taught by someone other than me helped as it takes the "he-said-she-said" out of the equation.

And if she has a blast... you'll have a blast! :eyebrows:

Well, still no snow and the temp was +9C in the mountains today. In February. It's ridiculous. Everyone else is getting snow except us. Kitimat B.C. got almost 6 feet (180cm) in 24 hours! Nothing else for me to do but take a drive out to the mountains with [MENTION=86748]Ol'Baditude[/MENTION] and a few others.

Cold? It was balmy out there today especially for February. My temperature variation went from -12C in Calgary this morning to +9C in Canmore. It's actually a bit scary because there's no snow out in the mountains, which can mean drought for us this summer unless we get a lot of snow in March.

Its quite thin here in Colorado as well, at least for feb. Record highs the last few days (75f), we are getting snow so the skiing isnt terrible but the mountain biking isnt bad either at the lower elevations. Its all apparently going to Boston...

[MENTION=66300]Intruder[/MENTION] That looks like an awesome spot - I might steal your route and take the family and dog for a ride up there on the weekend, taking delivery Wednesday morning finally from Heninger. Safe to assume that's a safe run to do solo with a set of snow tires?

Oh yeah, it's just a gravel road for the most part. Lots of hikers, snowshoers, and x-country skiers use it to access trailheads and they drive a bit of everything. Not a lot of snow up there right now, but a few icy patches. I would've done the drive solo if nobody wanted to come with me. There are also a couple trailhead parking lots that tend to be empty if you're inclined to turn off the traction aids and do some donuts. I may have done this at the Mount Shark parking lot while everyone looked at me like I was crazy

By the way, the wife thinks your dogs sweater is manly, whatever that means. Haha, our mutt doesn't need such clothing but it doesn't get all that cold here in CO. Looking over the pics the last few days makes me itch for some camping. I prefer the cold weather camping over summer myself, yeah I know, crazy. Great pics...

The company that makes it does lots of outdoor gear for dogs. Ruffwear Performance Dog Gear | Dog Packs | Dog Boots Some of it is pretty hard core, like belay harnesses if you want to take your dog climbing.

Not particularly. It's a lot easier to drift it on snow or ice and I can feel it a bit going up a hill but that's about it. I did also add the Icon Overland coils at the same time the bumper was installed.

I finally managed to get all the way through this thread!

Some wonderful pictures and insights.

No I didn't read every word - but caught all the photos.

I spent a couple weeks in Alberta, mostly in the National Parks beteen the US border and Jasper. Beautiful Country. Though I was there in summer - so whole different ball game. That and Nevada is pretty much tree-less, grass-less and large river-less.

Thanks for keeping this thread up.......

BTW: How many miles have you accumulated on the 4Runner by now?
