Are you saying once 5.0 comes out for the note it will run slowly? If so wouldn't the Nexus 6, which has the same chipset as the Note 4 and running 5.0, run slowly?

Good question.

Note 4 and N6 have same S805 chip. But, N6 runs pure Android which is lightweight and more fluid. Note 4 runs Touchwiz which is heavy handed, bloated, and sluggish, esp for the Note series. This is why even with S801 chip, Galaxy S5 stuttered with the regular Touchwiz version.

S805 chip is only a MILD ramping up from S801 in terms of computational power. S805 is more about GPU improvements. I am sure that Note 4 will do good with the current Kitkat-based Touchwiz for Note series.

Except for a the few low-end ARMv8 chips coming out from Qualcomm (S610 for example) and Exynos 7 (Samsung Note 4 international version), ALL Android flagships have a chip that is based on ARMv7 architecture, which came out over 25 years ago! (ARMv8 came out at end of 2012.)

Lollipop (5.0) is optimized for ARMv8 chip architecture. It is for the next gen of chips coming out next month or so...but more importantly, it is to support the high end ARMv8 chips coming out next year (S810 for example). Why does this matter?

Remember, iPhone 5s could do things that iPhone 5 could not...games ran better, graphics were better, and some apps just no good on iPhone 5. (This was before Apple introduced METAL, which made the difference even more startling in graphics.) This was because ARMv8 architecture is FAR SUPERIOR to ARMv7 (which is what Snapdragon 800/801/805 etc are based on). ARMv8 is not just for 64-bit apps, but it also runs 32-bit apps better than ARMv7.

By next year, all the big names developer will optimized their apps AND make apps that are for the latest chips...and those chips are: S610, S810, and Exynos 7. All are ARMv8 chips. All are on Lollipop.

Do you remember Gameloft Asphalt 8? What did they do at the end of 2013? They optimized the game for S800 chips bc that was what most flagships had at the time. (Flagships buyers tend to be the folks who spend the most money on in-app purchases.)

What do you think the developers will do when S810 and Exynos 7 become mainstream in early 2015? Money drives optimizations.

Now, Nexus 6...you're correct. I think that anyone buying N6 is making a huge mistake. People who buy flagships NOW, including Note 4 and N6, are just shooting themselves financially because by next year, they will be FORCED to buy another phone! Nexus comes out every year. Google knows that. But people tend to buy tablets less often...and thus, Nexus 9 has Nvidia K1 Denver chip (ARMv8 64-bit chip). In addition, up to now, there has not been an ARMv8 chip that is available in a phone on Android. Qualcomm S610 is now only appearing in mid-level HTC phones. Exynos 7 just came out with Note 4 (international)...and unlikely anyone besides Samsung will use Exynos chips.

And these 1st gen ARMv8 chips from Qualcomm (s610, S810) and Exynos 7 are based on GENERIC cores from ARM, which are basically very primitive cores based on ARMv7 cores. It won't be till another year (late 2015) will we see CUSTOM designed ARMv8 cores from Qualcomm and Samsung.

Apple iPhone 5s (introduced in 2013) has Apple A7 chip, which is a fully CUSTOM-designed ARMv8 chip, capable of decoding, issuing, executing and retiring up to 6 instructions/micro-ops per clock! (Yes, that is MORE advance than upcoming flagship Qualcomm S810 and Exynos 7 chips which can only do 3 instructions at a time because they are based on GENERIC ARM cores.)

I just ordered the 6 in a 64gb. I hear that's the most popular version, so I might have to wait some time before it gets here. I'm ok with that. Never bee one to need the latest and greatest. Decided to make the move from my 5 because it's the 16gb version and I would like more HD space. Went down from a 32gb 4 because I didn't think I'd need the extra space, but with how much just the OS takes up, it fills up fast.

And I did look at other phones, but ended up staying with Apple. Bottom line is that I have 3 computers/laptops, an ipod and a nano and it just makes life easier to stick with another Apple product. Makes everything sych smoothly. I'm also in the minority who pretty much just uses their phone as a (gasp) phone.

But lets take this into consideration...in ONE year (or less), is your Note 4 be any good...aka act like a true flagship? How is the resale value at that time?

You guys are telling me HOW ADVANCE your Android devices are...surely, it should run well for the next 2, 3, 4, or 5 years, right? I mean, surely, its resale value will be top notch for years to come, right?

But, i will bet you this much...in ONE year, my iPhone 5s (be 2 yrs old) will be able to run ANY and ALL apps with speed, fluidity, and amazing graphics.

Can your 1 year old phone (by that time) do the same?

well just sold my s5 to cover the majority of my upgrade cost. i have to pay full price to keep my unlimited data. my s5 fetched a pretty penny and i only had to come out of pocket a little under 200 to cover the 750 the note was. i am a bit picky about my devices so my old phone was pristine, and i keep the box and paperwork. now i do understand the apples have a high resale but thats to be expected with a limited amount of product of a designer item. while the apples are cool in styling to some they do lack greatly in hardware and features.

Chip design? Android is 2 years behind.

Display? You mean the 2k display of LG G3 that is so damn high in resolution (with no benefit) that it overpowers the processor (S801) causing heating issues and stuttering? That is the hardware that i want? NO THANKS. I ALWAYS want a processor that is overengineered for the hardware that it powers. Don't you?

How about giving me a glass display that is accurate in colors with great outdoor visibility and very responsive? I agree that Samsung has done a great job with AMOLED...hats off to them. But then again, iPhone 6/6+ displays are right up there with Samsung's AMOLED. Just different technology. But outside of Samsung Note 4, iPhone 6 display is FAR superior to everything else.

What else? Oh yeah, the Megapixel race? Camera folks are just laughing their butts off at Android OEMs racing to add MPs with tiny a$$ sensors! Is that how you define hardware? By MPs? What happened to Samsung ISOCELL tech that they talked so much about? Oh yeah, they dumped into the trash can!

I don't know...in a phone, i care about display quality, camera, and mainly processor. The last one is important if i am going to keep something beyond 6 months.

It depends on how much you need it...for example, if you play the high end games (e.g. Asphalt 8), then you're dealing with frame rate drops, stuttering, and subpar graphics. Note 2 Exynos chip did NOT have a good GPU (Mali). I had one...search for my review on this forum.

But, yeah, if you just use it to text and answer calls, then i am sure any smartphone will last a while.

Problem with Android is that not ONE product has all the basic goodness. One Android may have good camera, but stuck with an outdated software that lags behind in updates. One may have amazing materials and good software interface, but have crappy camera. One may be running stock Android, but has crappy camera and poor audio (headphones) performance. One Android may have a really ultra-HD display with minimal borders, but has a processor that cannot support it.

iPhones have it. It may not have the highest resolution display (pure marketing!), but its display quality is second to none (well, maybe slightly below Note 4's AMOLED). It may not have 20 mega-pixels, but its camera ranks among the tops and produces CONSISTENT picture quality not found elsewhere. It may not have 8 cores and gazillion Ghz in its CPU, but its chip design is class-leading by a very wide margin, which allows it to have class-leading performance and future proof. It may not have the first fingerprint reader, but TouchID is so much better than everything that came before it and currently. It may not have NFC first, but Apple Pay is far simpler and more secure than everything before it. iMessage may not be the first text messaging app, but it is the fastest (almost real-time), well featured, and the only one capable of sending big videos instantly.

Sometimes, it is not what you see on paper that matters...it is what you experience when you use the device.

I am sorry [MENTION=49050]ddnw[/MENTION], but your wife is very much misinformed. Looking at specs on a piece of paper can be very misleading. I surely hope that your wife did not look at iPhone 6's A8 processor with two cores running at 1.5Ghz and ASSUME that it is inferior to your G2's processor (quad core with higher Ghz). That would be rather embarrassing on her part!

I had a 16 gig 5 before this, and by comparison the 6 has a longer battery life, stronger wifi antenna, seems to get a bit better cell reception, and the camera is improved (and I thought the 5 had a great camera).

I had my 5 for almost 2 years, it never crashed, the battery lasted all day, it had a great camera, apps were always fast and fluid, and they gave me $250 for it in trade toward the 6.

i went for a week and a half after selling my s5 and forwarded my calls to my work iphone and about lost my shit. slowest phone ever and not to mention its small enough to please zoolander. i guess if you are part of the alternative, hipster, liberal fray they are cool but i don't need anyone deeming what i can and can't do with my device. which is also why i don't have aol to hold my hand through the interwebs either.

dude you could have got more for it on ebay or craigslist. the store is handy for trade ins but use that as a last resort next time if it fails to fetch what you want on the other sites. verizon offered me 225 for mine and i was able to get 530 for it selling it myself.
