Is an electric fan worth doing?

I'd check what LC Engineering has to say on the matter. I know they sell electric fan kits for 4Runners and Tacos.

I know a few people are running electric fans and the only real common downsides are A) reliability and B) possibility of shattering the fan if entering deep water.

I was just about to make the opposite argument for deep water crossing. Back when I had my crawler we used electric fans because it allowed us to add a in line switch that let us turn the fan off before entering into deep water so we wouldn't have to worry about blades breaking or one of them flexing and rubbing the radiator.
