This just happened to me times 10 at a Toyota dealership here in Canada...
They balanced all my wheels and my right front was the only one out...
They had some 16 year old I gather doing the work and he totally, I mean TOTALLY, wrecked my wheel trying to get the weight off...ie: an area the size of the palm of my hand surrounding where the weight on the wheel was was totally screwed...scraped, deep diggs etc...It was like he was missing with a hammer or screw driver or something...
I didn't notice it right away on the day my oil change and the balancing was done because I had just had laser eye surgery in recent weeks and my acuity wasn't fully back...
Noticed it 2 days later at home and drove right to the dealership. The service manager looked at it in disbelief and there was no conversation required...He ordered me a new wheel on the spot...It was that bad...he seemed embarrassed....
This, however, was an extreme case...the guy really had no idea what he was doing...
For the replacement wheel I had them do the weighting on the inside of the wheel...I want to do this for the other three eventually but have my concerns about getting the other weights off without having damage...
I have read that it is almost enevitable to have some damage...this pisses me off...Why the hell didn't toyota weight them on the inside from the start...
I think when I do the other 3 I will get a trusted tire shop to do it...
