Is X-REAS worth a 3 Month wait?

Snap...take a look at Jim Bishop Toyota (http://www.jimbishoptoyota.com/) in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. My brother (John Colagross) is a salesman there and will give you a fair shake. Most people down there buy 2 wheel drive so the 4x4's don't seem to be as steep ($$$). Honestly, he's a good guy.

That's why RL Lemke had to go to coilovers as well - the same products messed up his XREAS system. I know of at least two other people who went through the same thing.

Regardless, I'm running the Sway-A-Way 2.0 coilovers now and they are a pleasure! I'm running them at about 4" of lift at the moment.

Well ... I wouldn't say it's a gimmick. If you're not planning on lifting the truck, then it's an awesome system to have - I remember trying one with XREAS and one without XREAS before I purchased it, and the XREAS had a noticeable difference in handling.

It's NOT true that you'll have to replace/throw away the XREAS if you want a mild lift ... you can definitely lift it with spacers, but I wouldn't go any higher than 3" ... and you'll still be able to keep the XREAS.

Lots of us ran/are running spacer lifts with XREAS.

I meant nothing bad about the X-REAS. I'm sure it performs just fine. The point is that wether you're running shocks or X-REAS, they'll all go bad in time. It's much cheaper and easier to work with shocks. If one goes bad you replace the one shock, if X-REAS goes bad you replace the entire system ($1500). That's my point...

for sure! i knew what you were saying, i just didn't want someone else to read it and think that lifting automatically meant a destroyed XREAS system.

XREAS was nice while I ran it.

Another option (if the dealers screw you around with the XREAS option) is to order it without and replace the stock with Donahoe coil-overs in the front and get OME coils/shocks in the rear. It will give you the lift and improved handling. RL Lemke is loving his DRs in the front and 4route her SAWs. Might just be another option, as the dealers might try to shake you down for a special order.

While I do plan on lifting the 4Runner in the future, the MOST I would ever plan on is 2" to 3" MAX.

This is my daily driving vehicle and one of the things that made me chose a 4Runner is the excellent onroad handling.

If and when I do lift it I want one that makes people who see it ask IF the truck was lifted or if it's stock. I want a suttle lift, not a Monster truck.

Two to three inches is PLENTY for my needs and the X-REAS system will also help the stabilty after any lift since it reduces vehicle roll. :

I was concerned about vehicle roll as well when lifting the runner. The lift greatly improved handling and to my surprise signifcantly decreased vehicle roll. Save your money and invest in Donahoe's or Saw's. You'll be glad you did.

If and when you plan to lift, the most you'll be able to lift is 3" so... Unfortunately our toyota's can't be lifted 6+" like the domestics... Just not built that way so keep that in mind. Keep in mind that when you do lift the truck using stock components, there are limitations in the stock components. Meaning that the stock shocks are not geared to be running at 3" of lift (example) so this will greatly diminish the abilities of the shocks to work efficiently.

I've posted many times on this regarding lifting a rig so look into this. If you ever plan to lift your rig and you want to maintain the same feel of your suspension, get a full suspension swap instead of using spacers. Spacers are great but severly diminish the ride quality on the long term. Look into alternatives such as OME (shock and coil) or coilover setups for the front and shock and coil for the rear.

XREAS is great if you don't lift. If you do, don't bother because it's a waste of $. This is the best way to look at it. No matter what you consider, there are way too many scenarios that can go wrong so I'd recommend staying away from xreas if you lift. I've done my share of lifts on a xreas and even though all the installs went smoothly, I still don't recommend it. I only do it because the owner still wants to but that's their choice I"ll help of course so I can make sure everything goes nicely opposed to going to hell! hehe

I am in the process of getting/ordering my first 4Runner...

...I do plan on putting a small lift (2") on 4runner in the distant future but I REALLY enjoy the way the truck handles my current "style" of driving which is what I would call "spirited". :arrow:

If you want just a little extra height and small change of look from stock you might consider 32" tires. You'd still have your XREAS ride although you'd have to live with speedo/odo error.

If I had it to do over I'd probably skip the XREAS because of my desire to lift.

Limited Runners with the rear air susp. has the best of both worlds (just wish the front could have been the same). Push the button and the rear lifts approx 5". Just had it at Paragon and it worked GREAT!
