Well my latest project. This one has been really fun. I made a set of tube doors. I first started by making the quick release pins for my front doors. (the rears will come, but im taking my time). I went and bought some materials. I used 1 3/4" .120 wall hrew. I used just under a full stick so the cost of tubing was under $40. the flat stock for the front part of the door was about $10 for 10 feet. and 3/16" plate i used for the hinges and latches was just stuff I had laying around. I have tube for the rears. they will come in the next few weeks.

This was just for fun. I know 4runners look kind of weird without doors, but its great for hard wheeling here in so cal where the weather is really nice. you can see way better and its one less body part to worry about banging in the rocks.

Finished product. I may add some expanded metal to the inside of the door, and I want to add some marine speakers.

tube caps which already have dents, I plan on weld on versions, but this was good enough for now. and a close up of the latch. I super glued that rubber stopper to the door. they fit super tight and dont rattle at all. The pin latch is not the most convenient but it was super cheap and stout

it would be awesome to see you market these.. I think quite a few people would pay for something like this (including me). And since you made them on the cheaper side, it would be afforadable for everyone.

As for the actualy end product, it looks great! I suggest a few gussets.

Anyways, great work.. truck is becoming a very functional rig!

I'd prolly never get to this stage of wheeling where the doors are taken of in place of tube doors...but in a hardcore wheeler's perspective, you see what you need.......and the functionality and the visual aid the tube doors present out there is unique.

Good Job Jason! I think my doors will stay on for now. I already have a hard enough time trying to clean the dust out of my truck after the trails. It'll look rad when you get the rears done too!

Thanks for the complements. I know Im not winning any style contests with the tube doors on, but it sure is really fun. I went wheeling in the valleys behind my house and I noticed its way easier to hit the slider because you can see exactly what is going on. It is easier to get the exactly line

You know i just let the dust pile up in my 4runner anyways. I really want to get started on the rears soon. I think it will look pretty cool. I am going to try and get them to match the fronts as close as possible. No one ever rides back there, but all 4 doors with tube leaves even less sheet metal to worry about.

Well this is not really part of my trucks build up, but I fabbed up a simple set of tube doors this morning for my buddy's 09 taco. As far as i know it may be one of the newest tacos with tube doors. I will add one more tube iin the middle of these doors eventually, but the progress was not bad for a 3 hour job. Got bot sides on, latches made up, door stops on and all tubes fully welded. My rears are next. I am also hoping to get to installing my new clutch next week

I guess. he took the bed off then ran out of money. Now he has a pretty good paying job. he is gonna have a company call Caboose Trailers, which makes offroading trailers they are right down from my house, anyways he is going to have them make a bed with lock boxes. It should be a cool truck

What clutch are you going with? I have been looking at the Marlin 1200lb clutch, but I am hoping to get a little more out of my current one.

I all ready have my clutch. It is an Aisin brand clutch kit that I bought from Trail Gear. Its the same kit wab fab sells ( i tired to buy one from wab fab first since he helped me with determining if the taco and 4runner cluctch kits are the same, but he said aisin is impossible to get since the earthquake in japan).

I got a killer deal. It was shipped to my house for right at $200 Its a great looking clutch. In Tg's website it says it fits taco's and through more research I am sure that taco clutches for the 3.4 are the same as 4runner clutches for the 3.4. I helped my friend install one of these a few months ago and it has been a great clutch for him. My napa one is on its last leg.

when doorless wheeling for the first time and it was awesome. We ran holcomb creek on saturday. It is a pretty good trail I had a funky cv joint with play in the outer and it broke 500 ft into the trail. Other than that it was a perfect day. I am going to get a few cv joints and start rear tube doors tomorrow. This is the 2nd cv joint broken in the last 3 weeks. Maybe i will have a few more busted cv's by the end of july.

got a little work done today. I think it looks great with the rear tube doors. All i have left is to finish my welds and add a drivers mirror to the front drivers door. Then paint. I think the rears look pretty similar to the fronts I tried to keep the same look going.

thats my old man's collection. He seriously hasnt been fishing in years. THose were some good days tho. That was some extra unistrut and pipe clamps

Thanks for all the comments. They should be all done and painted tomorrow. I like posting fabrication on this forum. There are a few members into wheeling and a lot of really nice people.

Looks good Jason, my buddy Randy has a lifted 06 Taco with tube doors and he bobbed the bed like 6 inches and wheels the piss out of it...tell your friend to get on it!
