Jack panel fire extinguisher

Is that the Fiskar's X7 14" hatchet? I want to put one in the same spot.

Not positive, but Googling it, it looks to be the same (and 14" sounds about right). It was a gift... Like I said, super sharp. You can stroke downward very lightly against a 2x4 and shave off pieces.

How did you secure this in the jack compartment? I'm thinking that some Velcro straps might do it. Thanks.

I got similar Gerber axe and I didn't like using of the jack compartment. So I use velcro to strap it to the child restraint anchor bracket on the back of backseat. Holds up just fine and easy to reach.

Not very well. Haha, actually now I just have the rubber tool kit strap around both the tool kit and the axe. Before I just maneuvered it in and found a spot where it wasn't moving much. It's not exactly a quick release solution either way, so I'm sure there's a better way to do it, but the space in that compartment is very awkward.
That picture looks like the one for sure.

I ended up buying a cam latch from McMaster-Carr and installing on the top, which seemed to be where it most needed the support. Seems to be holding the panel in there pretty well so far!

Agreed. Sorry to seem like a worry wart, but when it comes to these types of things you can never be too safe. If you can't figure anything else out, perhaps you can see about running a safety cable that ties through the panel and hooks to that steel bracket behind the hatch door? Leave enough slack so you can open the door and unhook it obviously, lol.
Great idea on that latch though, I will surely steal this for some other things I have in mind!

Somehow I missed these posts. Those are both really good ideas that I'm going to look into, as I still have some concerns myself a couple months later. Let's just say I've mostly been driving without the extinguisher...

Mount for Large Fire Extinguisher
I like the mounting locations, but I have a larger fire extinguisher I am trying to mount somewhere. My extinguisher is about two feet tall, ten inch diameter, and weighs maybe ten pounds. It won't fit in the other locations in this thread. I am thinking about using nylon straps around the center of the back seat in my 5th gen and having the extinguisher stand up against the back seat in the center of my trunk. I think I can hide the straps behind the part of the seat that folds down for the cup holder. It will make it harder to recline the rear seats and fold them down. Anyone else have any other locations for a larger fire extinguisher?
