JBL Sub Replacement

I've searched around the forum quite a bit for this information, but just want to make sure before buying something that won't work. I'm looking at the following sub to replace the factory JBL sub. I want to make sure it will fit fine where the stock sub fit:

Amazon.com: Kicker 10C84 (10C8-4) 8" Single 4 ohm Car Subwoofers: Car Electronics

Also, has anyone ever just unplugged the stock JBL. I have an aftermarket head unit and the correct harness to use all of the factory JBL system but if I turn the sub off from the new head unit it still rattles. I don't have much car audio experience so I'm not sure why turning it off if I'm using the correct harness results in the sub still rattling. Thinking of doing that until this one arrives. So will the Kicker fit in the factory area that the JBL is currently at? Thanks.

Also if I did replace the blown JBL with this Kicker would it be as simple as just unplugging the old one, removing it, then adding and plugging in the new Kicker? Thanks.

That's very similar to the sub I used to swap out my blown jbl. I'm heading home here in a few and I'll pull the box out to confirm.

I seem to remember you will have to do some minor modification to the stock wire ends and you will likely have to make a trim ring to mount the sub to.

I believe you need an 8 ohm sub for the stock system
Also the sub has a dual voice coil as you can see on the picture

Yes, it's definitely dvc, and if you have an aftermarket hu, I would suggest adding an amp, but it should work without one, it still may sound a bit distorted unless you tune your hu correctly to work with it.

The stock system is 2ohm. You will need a 2 ohm dual voice coil. Your best options are kicker or I believe jl audio. I searched high and low on this and this is the sub I used: Kicker 40CWD82

You WILL have to do a little trimming to the fins that are in the box and on the stock sub cover if you use this sub. I'm almost positive there is a shallow version if this sub made by kicker but at the time I ordered it was not available.

i used a Fosgate P3 slim 8" and didnt have to trim anything. Fits great. Sounds great. Very happy.

Thanks for the pics with the model number. Great help.

youll have to run new wiring for any aftermarket subs.

I didn't and it works just fine. The sub isn't going to pull anymore power, it just takes what the amp gives it so I can't see why you would have to new wires. Granted new larger wiring is probably preferred but it's not a necessity.

I would have to take the entire thing apart again to get pics. All the ones from my post are on an old phone. I'll try to find my old pair and see if they are on there.

The trimming's not bad, only took me a couple mins
