Jeep haters

It does seem that is a sizeable percentage of Jeep and Mustang guys thta harbor ill feeling toward most other brands especially Japanese cars and trucks.

These are the guys who believe that everything American is the best. Unfortunately for them, this couldn't be more incorrect when it comes to vehicles. "American" made cars are mostly junk, and ironically many of them are made in plants that aren't even in the US. Ford, for example, has one of their largest factories in Mexico... Go figure...

But I've had my eye on my neighbor's PT Cruiser for ages, and I'm thinking of offering him my 4Runner as a trade. The styling on the PT Cruiser gives me a boner. :thumb3:

Don't know if I would call it hate - but there certainly is some frustration. My g/f has a 2001 Grand Cherokee 4x4 Laredo. It has been in her family since new and is approaching 192,000 miles. It is her 'second car' - since her 2002 Toyota Highlander 2wd is her primary vehicle. (BTW, the Highlander has just under 166,000 miles and is still going strong.) It has had regular oil & filter changes and most of the mileage was accumulated by highway driving.

The 4.0L inline-six seems to be a decent engine, but the quality control on other aspects of this SUV has proved to be disappointing. The switches and other parts of the interior resemble Tinkertoys or an Erector set. Two of the power windows have had to have the regulator replaced, the cam sensor went bad and the "check engine" light has malfunctioned twice.

The power moonroof still works like new, though; and the CD player sounds great. The seats don't show much wear, either. The exterior is in good condition, although I did have to buy 20 new lug nuts for the wheels because the factory ones were literally falling apart and the shiny coverings were coming off. The new ones certainly improved the vehicle's appearance!

Now the '01 GC is for sale. If anyone's interested, I can give you more information. It certainly is a great-looking SUV, though. I don't hate them, but probably would not buy one myself unless I got a VERY GOOD DEAL on one.

Eh I don't hate them but don't love 'em either. As mentioned already its some of the arrogant owners that I can't stand. Quality wise they aren't as good as most imports but there are much worse American vehicles out there than Jeeps IMHO.

About the only NA vehicles I would buy are a Ford F-150 or a Jeep Wrangler. Always liked Ford trucks, and the Wrangler is actually a useful Jeep. Other than a 4Runner, though, the only vehicle I have a craving for is an old Toyota FJ40 as a hobby car.

Wow...I didn't realize that many people disliked most of us Jeep owners. I can't speak for everyone else but I try to be nice to everybody until they give me reason not to...then look out.

I like Wrangler Rubicons up through '06. The old Scramblers were awesome too. I sure wouldn't mind having a WWII era Ford or Willy's Jeep.

Yup, darn them Bro's, wranglers will forever be scarred.

I do, however, quite like the later model XJ's. (95'-01' Cherokees)
There is this one build of one with a 6.5" long arm lift and 33's that is just beautiful.

The Compass,Patriot and Liberty are somewhat of a joke and can't stand those vehicles.

What is wrong with the Liberty? I understand the other two are car-based SUV wannabees, but isn't the Liberty a truck based vehicle like ours with low range gearing and true 4x4? The older ones look kinda girly and the news ones are just ugly.

While my other vehicle is in the shop, Enterprise lent me a 2011 Grand Cherokee. Overall, i don't like it. But it's either this or the Chrysler mini-van. I'mma drive the crap out of it this weekend.

It's an automatic. A wierd automatic lol. But you have to move the shifter left/right to down/upshift. Redline is at 7K rpm. I unintentionally redlined it driving it off their lot b/c it was on 1st gear (didn't notice until the digital dash showed me). :biggrin2: There be more stories next week. :boink:

Just too girly and too little clearance in stock trim but yes,they can go alot farther than it's other siblings.

i had a 99 GC for a while. Never really cared for it all that much. The inside was too small and it never really felt like it had tons of power. That being said, it was pretty reliable, but mostly served my g/f in grocery getting. I did drive her step-dads '98 GC in the sand on Chincoteague VA and it did very well. My mom's 98 Cherokee Sport was a POS. Every conceivable electronic sensor or whatever crapped the bed pretty much at one time or another, which was too bad because the overall drivetrain seemed pretty solid. However i could never recommend a Jeep to anyone else as a DD following her experiences. It literally cost her thousands in upkeep, and she never took it off the pavement! "Jeep" is certainly a 4-letter-word in my parents house.

Here's an update on this 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (rental car). There are times that i had to floor it to get some go and it'll jump 15-20mph more. Almost got a speeding ticket (whew):hatsoff:. Took it on the freeway and i could hear the engine squeal like a 4-banger. Downshifting is ridiculous. Instead of going from Drive to 4, it downshifts from Drive to 1. Thank gawd it's not my vehicle. The passenger side mirror sucks tho it says "items appear to be closer". It really does appear to be real closer. I backed up against the wall and i thought i might have scratched the rear bumper. When i got out, the rear bumper was 2 1/2 ft from the wall. The fresh/circulate button sucks. Everytime i want it to circulate, it automatically turns on the A/C. The a/c is cold but it takes forever (approx 15-20 mins)to heat it up. It sprinkled last night and after turning on the wipers and wiping off the windshield, it appears there's hard waterspots on the windshield. Speaking about the wipers; when i turn on the splashers, it blinds you especially when you're on the road. I don't think it's off-road capable. There's only like a 4-inch gap between the top of the tires and the plastic fender. I tried to get on the street sidewalk and it hits the fender. The only good thing about it is that it has a push engine start. I can just have the keys in my pocket and unlock the driver's side door just pushing the little black button on the door handle. So if you're thinking about buying one, think twice. Just my 2 cents.
