June 2010 T4ROTM - harper7

No Problem. I ended up ordering the Icon piggy backs for the rear too. They were building them for me yesterday and shipping next week. If they get here by Friday they will go on Sat. Your more then welcome to come up and see them in person or how they go on. Changing the UCA's too and have an extra set of LR's.Just PM me for my ph. #.

I haven't heardanything from Icon on mine, but doesn't surprise me. Last time I ordered it just kinda showed up one day.

Question...did you get the upgrade springs for the rear, the 2" lift springs? I did, but I'm thinking if the piggyback shocks can work without the springs I may just install them for now. Don't want too much lift just yet.

Still have the 1 inch Toytec spacer in the front which gives about 1 3/4 inch front lift . Ordered Icon remotes and LR UCA's last week. They should go on next weekend if they get here by then.

Harper,
The mods on your 4R are outstanding!
I am hoping you document your suspension upgrade with the same detail you have done everything else. I have a limited too, and am interested in how you handle the XREAS. Will you be removing the stock XREAS completely?

Thanks!

harper. you need to work on getting the T. E Hood. I did some researching on 4th gen hoods. those run around 300+ scoop stuff. I wouldnt mind getting this put on my white limited. what to do with the old hood then???????

Rear springs have been stumping me too. I heard that the Icon rear springs are kinda stiff and can give more then 2 inches lift.I don't want too much rear lift either as I have garage height restraints.

I have a set of FJ rear springs I'm going to try and also have a 1.5" rear spring spacer to try also. From alot of research the rear Sway a Way springs are a little softer and you get 1.5 inch lift.Pretty sure they are made by Eibach for SAW.
I bought them from DeMello Offroad but I had been on the phone with Jeremy from Icon a couple of times last week discussing the set-up and the order.

Yep, I'll document everything. The X-Reas is being completely taken out.

I'm so stoked...just got a couple of confirmations from Icon...my ordered shipped Friday, so I should see it soon, and more importantly, the rear shock are valves ok to use with the stock springs.

I think I'm going to install them but leave the stock springs for now. When I decide to upgrade to 35s I'll putthem on then.

I was gonna order the Icon Remote Resi Front Coilovers and the Remote REsi Rear Shocks along with their rear 2" lift Springs probably next week. I was only hoping to raise the front about 2"-2.5" to maybe level it with the rear, are you basically saying that the Icon springs would raise the rear of my 4Runner to much? To the point that I would have to raise the front even higher just to match the rear? If this is the case, should I just give OME rear springs a shot?

Thanks,
Nathan

if you install the full system it would raise the front 3" and rear 2". All I want for now is a levelling too, but I want the ride of the Icons. If I were you, I would leave the rear spring stock, and put in Icon's rear shocks with the adjustable fronts. The springs don't affect the ride of the vehicle, just the shocks. The springs will help in sag and or lift.

The front being adjustable will work with both a lift or level type of suspension upgrade.

Wait a couple of weeks and both Harper and I will have two variations of the Icon lift on...after that you can make a decision. Saves you some time and heartache. To be honest, I wish someone else was doing this before me.

Harper any plans on blacking out the mirrors too? ether way the tuck looks great, looking forward to seeing future updates/pics of your on going build. :)

harper. below your ID it says "bannned" whats going on with that?

I have the TE hood part number if you need it. i will be doing some other mods to my hood. more to come...

Sorry if I missed it but did you end up keeping the Spidertrax spacers?

Looks sweet by the way.
Thanks!
No need for the spidertrax spacers now as the new rims are 1 inch wider.

No , keeping them painted for now.Love the turn signal and puddle lamps on them. Maybe some day when they if they scratched or nicked up like mirrors do.

Banned for a day,for violating article 12, posted a Monty Python spam skit from youtube after a spam post.

What's the part number and price? I was thinking about getting one and have it painted flat black some time down the road. Many other needed mods before that though.

So you went with TC's huh? good choice. I assume you went in for alignment before and after installing them? Did they make a big difference in specs? Curious what you think about them since you drove lifted for a while without them.

I bought Light Racing UCA's and then of course the day after they came a guy put up a set of used TC's over on the Taco forums for sale. He was going to long travel UCA's and only had these 6 months. Put the TC's on Saturday as my Icon CO's hav'nt got here yet . Glad I did as I wanted to see how much of a difference just the UCA's made. Wow,big difference, as with the bigger tires it wanted to wander more on the highways. Not now!

Alignment........Mahhh. I aligned it myself for now the old fashioned way . String for toe-in and a plumbob for camber! 2 adjustments and she's running straight as an arrow. These are easy to align thye camber as they have degree markings on the LCA's. I will get it aligned at the shop when I get the rest of my suspension in and settled in a couple of weeks. I'm usually in specs by my adjustments.Still waiting on Icon!

Well I got my harper7 account back up and running again so I'm ditching the 7harper.

I did'nt put my Icon suspension on last weekend as UPS lost my Icon rear shocks ,so DeMello offroad is sending a new set when they get built .:ybrick:

I did put my onboard air system in but did not plumb it or wire it up yet. It's a ViAir 480C compressor that is rated at 200psi continuous duty and a 2 gallon tank.

I have a splitter for air,one in the front for big rig air horns I bought and one going to the back with a female air coupler to air up the tires and run air tools and eventually a air locker. The 150db air horns were inspired by an idiot child ,texting with ear phones in, of course in the fast lane going 55mph blocking traffic.

I had to relocate some wiring harnesses that were on top of that fenderwell behind the airbox. That's why you see some red high temp rtv tape on the main wiring harness. I double wrapped them and made a bracket down lower then they were located, thus needed more heat protection.

I custom fabbed the tray and brackets out of 401 stainless steel and bent them to shape, riveted and attached them to the existing studs/holes.Aircraft sheetmetal experience in the past was the driving engine there.Still took a good 10 hours of work/fun.

The pics are working backward in time.

Harper - looks sweet. I helped a friend install a similar tank in his CJ7 about 2 months ago. We didn't install a compressor though. The sheetmetal bracket looks really slick.

Congrats on getting your account back. You put your compressor exactly where I plan on putting mine, but it's nice to see an air tank in there too. Are you going to wire up a pressure switch or a manual one?
